How to achieve that?
Adjust first to the urban fabric of the city made of narrow streets and alleyways and be ready to walk according to the friendly and slow pace of a car free city.
Secondly be part of a small party, yourself and your family or your friends as Venice is not made for large groups.
And last but not least have your licensed guide lead you around to show the city, its landmarks and the places only locals know about. You can enter with him historical buildings, churches and museums and this means you'll always get a true insight into the art, architecture, history and daily life of this amazing city.
Besides the ready made tours you'll see in my Tourbylocals page, I'll be glad to customize your own tour.
My tours are entirely private so just contact me for advice and suggestions and let me work out your personalized tour.
I've been working in the tourist business for 32 years, first travelling extensively as a tour manager and tour organizer before starting in 2002 my present job as a licensed tourist guide in Venice the city where I work and live.
After so many years I still enjoy what I do although what I like most is to share my life experience in Venice with you my companion visitors.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
- From April 1st to October 31st I suggest you contact me before booking. Availability is very volatile in these 6 months and the online calendar may not be always updated 100%.
- From early/mid July until mid/end of August humidity and temperatures can be very high. Best then is touring in the morning or in the early evening.
- For a better handling of your requests, always provide the name of your lodgings in town or pick up point if you're not staying in Venice. This will be helpful to set the most efficient itinerary.
- Before sending your request look first at my published tours and see if any suits your visiting time best. Otherwise we can work together on a customized tour.

Fernando was a terrific guide. Our tour was on a rainy day, but he made Venice shine despite the weather!
