A promenade through history, charming squares, ancient cafeterias and stunning covered arcades.
Turin (Torino) is an ancient, charming and elegant city. It was the capital of Savoia kingdom for many centuries and the first Italian capital from 1861 to 1865.
This French dynasty decided to model Turin as their little jewel, in the Baroque style.
There's a whiff of Paris in Turin's elegant tree-lined boulevards and but also echoes of Vienna in its ancient art-nouveau cafes, but make no mistake - this elegant, Alp-fringed city is utterly self-possessed.
Turin boasts museums and galleries aplenty but, with all its ornate Baroque architecture and grand piazzas, there's no need to pay entrance fees to soak up this elegant yet understated Italian city.
The capital of the Piedmont region is relatively small, with a level downtown area and hillside suburbs facing the historic city centre, making it perfect for shoestring travellers to tour by foot and take in fantastic views looking out towards the Alps.
We will visit all the elegant squares, churches, cafeterias and old arcades in the old town heart!
We'll go until the Po river (the longest in Italy) and admire all the most important tourist sights, such as
- Piazza Castello
- Piazza San Carlo
- Galleria Subalpina
- Galleria San Federico
- Piazza Vittorio
- Piazza Carignano
