Earning a BA in Cultural Anthropology (magna cum laude) from UCLA in 2005 and an MA in 'Screen Media Cultures' from Leeds Beckett University (England) in 2009, gives me a passion and a deeper insight into the many cultures (and sub-cultures) that thrive here in Southern California.
My passion is finding unique, off-the-beaten-path locations and digging into their background stories. I am a travel author and a recovering stand-up comedian so I *always* endeavor to be entertaining.
With my anthropology background, my tours tend to focus on some of the many cultures (and sub-cultures) that Los Angeles has to offer. Various areas of the city offer glimpses into Jewish, Japanese, Latino, African-American, Armenian, Persian, Ethiopian, Vietnamese, and Chinese heritage, just to name a few of the options. Each of these communities have a unique history, special food treats, wonderful shopping opportunities, and (in some cases) their own museums.
In addition to the numerous ethnic communities, Los Angeles also has a set of unique histories, such as the Golden Age of Hollywood, Classic Rock & Roll, and Western movies & TV shows.
Eating is a big part of travel and my tours include special treats (such as visiting one of the many unique ice cream places that have been popping up lately!) and offer ethnic culinary experiences as well.
I am an English speaker, but have a great deal of experience volunteering at English schools (in Spain, Germany, Hungary, and Poland) plus years of hosting international exchange students, so I know to speak slowly and clearly (but not louder!) in order to be understood by people for whom English is a second (or third or fourth!) language.
In the course of my tours, I have learned to accommodate people with mobility issues. Since I tend to keep the pace leisurely (feeling that is a better way to absorb the culture of places one visits), my tours are especially suited for older travelers or those who have mobility issues. I can accommodate a fold-up wheelchair in my car but it is not equipped for someone who would need a ramp to get in or out.
I believe that my background gives me a unique perspective on the wonderful city of Los Angeles. I look forward to sharing my love of Southern California with you! Thank you!

Sheila was absolutely amazing! We had such a fun trip through Hollywood, she was so wonderful, thoughtful and thorough. It really felt as if we were being shown the sites by an old friend. I highly recommmend her as a tour guide, you will love her!
