The City of the three Cultures. Walking through the Spanish Middle Ages with a private guide
From the pre-Roman times to the 21st Century. Mainly known as the "former capital of Spain". The Romans made of it an important city, which now we know - thanks to recent archeological research - is at least 4, 000 years old. After that, the barbarians made of it the capital of the Visigothic Kingdom. 100 years after the creation of Islam, it became a Muslim ruled city during 400 years. After that it became a border-line city till the 13th century and then a new period begins, the former main Mosque turns into a new Gothic cathedral finished one year after the discovery of America, in an amazingly way. Let's not forget the relationship between the role played by Toledo's Jewish community and the European Renaissance! All these cultures have left a trail of magnificent buildings and works of art, which speak for themselves.
