Jump into the past by visiting the ruins of the Hadrian's Villa. This great emperor, travelling all around the empire, took inspiration from different styles and cultures to decorate his residence in Tivoli. Strolling through the ancient ruins you will be fascinated by the famous Canopus and the peculiarity of the Maritime theatre. Jump then from ancient Rome into the Renaissance with a visit to Villa D'este- world-famous for its amazing fountains that were truly ahead of their time. The cardinal Ippolito D'este, son of the famous Lucrezia Borgia, became governor of Tivoli in 1550 and transformed the ancient convent of St. Mary Major into one of the most luxurious villas of the Renaissance. Here you will discover not only beautiful frescoes but you'll also be amazed by the villa's gardens and the 100 fountains that enrich them.
