Vineyard and Banana Plantation
This excursion takes us deep into the scenic northwest of Tenerife. We will visit one the island's private vineyards, producer of the much sought-after Viñátigo wines. If available on the day we may be able to see some of the wine production process. William Shakespeare often mentioned Canary wines in plays like The Merry Wives of Windsor, and early European merchants came to purchase Tenerife's wines in the 16th and 17th centuries.
We visit a banana plantation on the tongue of a volcanic lava flow which nestles by the sea under steep cliffs. We will have a chance to learn about banana growing and enjoy scenery which is simply beautiful. The original mansion on the estate is a delight. It is one of the hidden aristocratic treasures of old Tenerife and we can enjoy strolling through its vast, palmed patio. If we have time you might choose to enjoy a tapas lunch at a local inn.
I will collect you from your ship or hotel at 9am. Our tour takes us straight to the vineyard where we will spend approximately one to one and a half hours.
From there we will drive towards the northwest of the island to visit the banana plantation. If you like we can sample some delicious Canary cuisine before returning you to your ship or hotel at approximately 3pm.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: If you are on a cruise ship our meeting point will be just outside the new cruise ship terminal building in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. To get there you can take the free cruis shuttle bus which drops you right outside the same building. It takes just five minutes. You can also walk if you prefer.
If you are staying at an hotel on the island or wish to be collected at any other address I will meet you there.
For recognition I shall wear a GREEN cap and carry a GREEN umbrella.
End location: If you are on a cruise ship I will return you to the port's meeting point which is just five minutes from the ship. If you are staying at a hotel I will return you to your hotel.
Duration: 6 hours
Our tour will be in a private vehicle, taxi or hired car. The vehicle will always be modern, clean and air-conditioned. If required we can organise a larger vehicle but usually it will have seating capacity for up to 6 travellers. We will do a small amount of walking at both the vineyard and the banana plantation.
The tour includes the guided driven excursion to the vineyard and banana plantation from your ship or hotel. It also includes the visit to the banana plantation. It does not include the purchase of any food and drink.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
45 Euros - You probably won't need as much as 45€ per person on this tour and you will almost certainly find it is more than enough for any wines purchased at the vineyard as well as a restaurant bill. The visit includes the fee for the tour of the vineyard. The tour of the banana plantation is free.
You may wish to purchase one or two of the magnificent Viñátigo wines at the vineyard. I'm sure you will also like to enjoy a stop to sample some delicious, traditional Canary Island cuisine on our way.
I am not a mountaineer so would not be able to take clients mountain climbing, for example up the slopes of Mount Teide, but I can, of course, take you on the cable car and walking along the many mountain and coastal tracks in Tenerife.
