Teide National Park
Nobody should visit Tenerife without witnessing the dramatic scenery in the Teide National Park, breath-taking evidence that the Canary Islands were formed by prolonged volcanic activity.
Our excursion takes us deep into an amazing landscape of rock formations, giant lava flows and strange shapes and colours one could only imagine on another planet. The park was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 2007 and is one of the most visited national parks in the World. In May and June the flora is amazing with the Retamas and Echiums in blossom. In winter, if we are lucky, Mount Teide will be even more photogenic with a covering of snow sparkling in the sunlight.
We will make numerous stops for spectacular camera shots. If requested and if we have time we might stop at a local inn to sample traditional Canary Island cuisine on our return. You may prefer to take the cable car up Mount Teide, in which case please see details on another of my tours, the Volcano Teide Trip. (Ref: tour #292594)
This excursion begins at 9am or at another prefered time from your ship or hotel and we head straight up into the hills.
In normal conditions we will drive along the island's amazing ridge road to Teide National Park. On rare occasions this road is closed due to snow, in which case we would take an alternative road.
Our tour takes us through Teide National Park and its spectacular volcanic landscapes. Our return route might be via the lush Orotava Valley or through the southern pine forests, depending on where you are staying or upon whether you are on a cruise. If requested we will stop on our way to sample some typical island cuisine.
We try to have you back at approximately 3pm, unless you specifically need to be back aboard your ship earlier. If the park is closed due to snow, which is rare, I will offer you an alternative tour.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: If you are on a cruise ship our meeting point will be just outside the new cruise ship terminal building in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. To get there you can take the free cruis shuttle bus which drops you right outside the same building. It takes just five minutes. You can also walk if you prefer.
If you are staying at an hotel on the island or wish to be collected at any other address I will meet you there.
For recognition I shall wear a GREEN cap and carry a GREEN umbrella.
End location: If you are on a cruise ship I will return you to the port's meeting point which is just five minutes from the ship. If you are staying at a hotel I will return you to your hotel.
Duration: 6 hours
Our tours are by private car, hired vehicle or taxi and usually for a capacity for up to 6 travellers unless you specially request a tour for a larger group. The vehicle will be air-conditioned and clean. We will do a small amount of walking, either in towns or in the countryside, so it is best to wear comfortable walking or tennis shoes.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
15 Euros per person - This is only an estimate for a possible stop for lunch. If you are thinking of taking a ride on Mount Teide's cable car please enquire with me or see another of my tours, Teide Volcano Trip. (tour #292594)
I am not a mountaineer so would not be able to take clients mountain climbing, for example up the slopes of Mount Teide, but I can, of course, take you on the cable car and walking along the many mountain and coastal tracks in Tenerife.

Our tour with John was amazing. We drove up into the mountains through the beautiful pine & eucalyptus forests, ending up in the volcanic lunar landscape some 2,000 metres above sea level. John was extremely knowledgeable about the volcano & the history of Tenerife.
