Los Gigantes and Masca Valley
The giants lie asleep in their volcanic rock formations. They are only visible from out at sea but the view of their cliffs in the bay at Los Gigantes can be quite stunning. What was just an empty bay and playground for hammerhead sharks just forty years ago has become a haven for holidaymakers and luxury yachts. Leaving the giants behind, we take the mountain road through the agricultural towns of Tamaimo and Santiago del Teide.
But we cannot drive in the remote north western mountains without a peep into the amazing Masca valley where the remote and picturesque village perches like a nest, clinging to the rocky slopes over a spectacular gorge. Often referred to as the forgotten village there was no proper road until the early 1990's so what we discover is still an idyllic, unspoilt cluster of pretty houses in a wild and mountainous valley. A sample of Canary cuisine and prickly pear juice will make this an unforgettable day.
Our itinerary very much depends upon whether you are on a cruise ship, on how long the cruise ship is in port, or whether you are staying at an hotel on the island. (The distance from the cruise port to this tour destination may be too long if your ship is only in port for a few hours).
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: If you are on a cruise ship our meeting point will be outside the new cruise ship terminal building in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. To get there you can take the free cruis shuttle bus which drops you right outside the same building. It takes just five minutes. You can also walk if you prefer, in which case I will give you further instructions after booking.
If you are staying at an hotel on the island or wish to be collected at any other address I will meet you there.
For recognition I shall wear a GREEN cap and carry a GREEN umbrella.
End location: If you are on a cruise ship I will return you to the port's meeting point which is just five minutes from the ship. If you are staying at a hotel I will return you to your hotel.
Duration: 7 hours
Unless you specifically request a shorter excursion, the tour will take approximately 7 hours.
Transport will be in a private modern vehicle, taxi or hired vehicle (depending on the number of travellers) with air conditioning to and from our destination. There will be a small amount of walking. This excursion is not recommended for people with walking difficulties.
Included in the price for the excursion is your guided tour and driven transport from and to your hotel or meeting place in the port if you are on a cruise.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
20 Euros - You will only need cash for any snack or lunch and this will almost certainy be less than 20€ per person.
The only extras you will find on this tour are your own purchases, for example of food or refreshments.
I am not a mountaineer so would not be able to take clients mountain climbing, for example up the slopes of Mount Teide, but I can, of course, take you on the cable car and walking along the many mountain and coastal tracks in Tenerife.

Had a change of tour per John's recommendation. We drove up through the clouds to Mt. Teide, currently a sleeping volcano. Amazing mix of terrain from coast to volcano and across the spine of the island and down the other side. We sampled 3 typical Canary Island dishes for lunch and a local wine. Have a new favorite coffee, barraquito. John is knowledgeable, flexible with a great love of his island home. When we return to Tenerife; another day with John will be on our bucket list!
