Hidden Tenerife

If you want a taste of what the Canary Islands might have been like until not so very long ago, the Taganana Tour is the one for you. Away from the speed of modern life, Taganana remains isolated and almost untouched by progress.

It is hidden deep in amongst the steep valleys of the island's oldest mountain range and the tour meanders in and out of ravines, from the beautiful coastline of spectacular cliffs and beaches once used by pirates to land their treasures right up to the sub-tropical rain forest in the Las Mercedes peaks.

The sights are simply magnificent and beautiful. The contrasting colours, varieties of plant and tree species and pretty mountain hamlets will keep your camera occupied almost around every corner. If it is open we will peep inside the beautiful church of Our Lady of the Snows with origins in the early 16th century before heading for Tenerife's very own sub-tropical rain forest. If requested we will make time for a simple but delicious tapas lunch before ending the tour.

I will collect you from your cruise ship or hotel at 9amor earlier if agreed before heading straight into the Anaga Mountains and down into the valley of Taganana.

We will stop for photographs throughout the drive. In Taganana we will visit the spectacular beaches and visit the small, 16th century Lady of the Snows church if it is open.

We will then head up into the Las Mercedes forest, stopping at numerous viewing points for photographs and for a tapas lunch if requested before returning you to your hotel or ship at approximately 3pm.

Meeting Location + Tour Duration

Meeting location: If you are on a cruise ship our meeting point will be just outside the new cruise ship terminal building in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. To get there you can take the free cruis shuttle bus which drops you right outside the same building. It takes just five minutes. You can also walk if you prefer.

If you are staying at an hotel on the island or wish to be collected at any other address I will meet you there.

For recognition I shall wear a GREEN cap and carry a GREEN umbrella.

End location: If you are on a cruise ship I will return you to the port's meeting point which is just five minutes from the ship. If you are staying at a hotel I will return you to your hotel.

Duration: 6 hours

This excursion will be by private vehicle, taxi or hire car with capacity for up to 6 passengers unless you specially request a tour for a larger group. The vehicle will be modern, clean and air-conditioned. There will be a small amount of easy walking.

What’s Included

Transport to and from your ship or hotel is included in the price for this tour as is my guiding service. However, refreshments or meals at local restaurants are not.

Estimated Local Cash Needed

25 Euros - If requested we will have time to stop at a local inn for a light tapas lunch. This will probably only cost between 10 and 15€ per person, but bring a little more in case.

I am not a mountaineer so would not be able to take clients mountain climbing, for example up the slopes of Mount Teide, but I can, of course, take you on the cable car and walking along the many mountain and coastal tracks in Tenerife.
