Historic La Laguna
This tour is designed for those of you who would like a closer look at the island's history, at its roots embedded in religious culture and feudal conquest.
Originally called Aguere by the ancient Guanche inhabitants, Alonso Fernández de Lugo named it San Cristóbal de La Laguna in 1496 after finally defeating the fiercely proud and brave Guanche people at La Victoria. Spanish conquests were always accompanied by Catholic missions and the city's churches and convents, many with 16th century origins and proof of strict religious and monarchic order, are brimming with priceless treasures.
La Laguna's historic centre was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1999. It is the original capital, where the wealthy, the nobility and the administrative and intellectual classes first lived and the Palace of Nava and Grimón, the Casa Lercaro, where we will visit the Museum of History and Anthropology and House of the Jesuits are examples of a cultured past.
I will collect you from your ship or hotel at 9am or earlier if agreed and drive to the city of La Laguna. Here we will spend approximately two hours strolling through the old town centre and visiting monuments.
Depending on where you are staying, be it a hotel or cruise ship, we may have time to drive to the town of town of Tacoronte to visit a bodega to sample some of the island's famous wines, and the beautiful church of St. Catherine of Alexandria.
We will return you to you ship or hotel at approximatly 3pm.

We have been fortunate in all our tours. But John's tour yesterday was outstanding! He was knowledgeable in so many varied areas of Tenerife, from the history of the pirates to an incredible knowledge of plants and agriculture! He was kind and very sensitive to my husband's physical disabilities and always made sure to minimize how much he had to walk, and often had us wait while he retrieved the car. We also had a FABULOUS lunch!! Touring with John was definitely one of the highlights of our trip!!!!
