The berber market with a private guide

The word Souk most likely refers to Berber/North African traditional markets, where prices are commonly set by bargaining between buyers and sellers. Historically, souks were open-air markets held outside cities at locations where incoming caravans would stop and merchants would display their goods for sale. Any souk might have a social function in terms of being a place to meet, in addition to its commercial function. Later, due to the importance of the marketplace in local economy, the locations of souks shifted to urban centers. A seasonal souk is held at set time which might be monthly or weekly. Weekly markets have continued to function throughout Morocco. They usually have open space specifically designated for them. The permanent markets are an enclosed merchandising areas where goods and services are exchanged or sold.

Besides shopping and discovering the richness and diversity of the Moroccan crafts in the lively souks and bazaars in the old town, the tour provides the opportunity of exploring the historic center (kasbah & medina), as well as the modern section and surrounding area, including Cape Spartel and Cave of Hercules!

A Recent Review of this tour

We booked Moghit through ToursByLocals for a four-hour city tour of Tangier (11a-3p). He met us at the cruise port with a sign bearing our names. Moghit's English is excellent and he seems to know everyone in Tangier. He took his time - in fact, we got more than five hours with him - and we got a very good idea of daily life in Tangier. Moghit is highly educated and we had some great conversations, but he also gave us plenty of time to ourselves. He was very refined and intelligent. Highly recommended.
