Takayama old merchant houses, beautifully decorated festival floats
Takayama developed as a castle town 400 years ago. The local lord Kanamoris ruled the region for about 100 years. Then the Tokugawa central government removed the Kanamoris. Since then, the region flourished as a merchant town in the Edo period. Old merchant houses are lined up along the narrow street of Sannomachi district. This area is appointed preservation districts for groups of traditional buildings. The lattice windows of merchant houses, which are painted brown Bengara, are unique and impressive. It gives us Japan's earliest memories. We visit Takayama Jinya, which was the former branch administrative office of Tokugawa Shogunate, and then Morning market, Sannomachi merchant district, Kusakabe folk museum, Takayama festival floats exhibition hall, Takayama festival is one of the three most beautiful festivals in Japan, and in the end we will visit Higashiyama walking course.

My son and I had and outstanding tour in Takayama with Takashi. He really guided us to see a lot in one day, and we are enriched from the experience. He knows every corner of the area -- a true expert.
