I chose Oguz as our tour guide after interviewing more than 5 persons without exaggeration, he is very passionate about what he is doing . He was very prompt on all the communications that we had with him. He is very knowledgeable tour guide and delivered all the details of the Custom tour that I designed, his communication skills is excellent, he shared the detail of the points that tourist interested to know. We use his service again in our next stay and highly recommend him.
On the day of our tour, Istanbul was cold wet and windy but Oguz with his charm and age old story telling ability transformed our tour into an adventure that we will never forget. He showed us parts of Istanbul there were off the tourist route and we ate at restaurants where we were the only tourist at places we would normally not venture into ourselves. He is flexible with his time and itinerary. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and would highly recommend Oguz for your trips to Istanbul.

Our second tour with Oguz in 2 days and every bit as good as the first. Nothing was too much trouble and always with a smile. By the end of the 2 days we had made a new friend in Turkey and are looking forward to meeting up again in the future.

5 stars for Oguz and his guiding today. Why? 1. We walked through side doors into private courtyards to see another side of the city, 2. We talked about recent, local Nobel prize winners and their influences on the community 3. We talked about the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque's connection to the equinox. 4. We ate the best foods, tea, and coffee 5. I met Oguz. Never pushy. Polite. Excellent English. He went well above my expectations to show me the culture of Istanbul outside of the museums.

Our tour guide Oguz was wonderful. 5 stars maybe 10 stars. We felt safe. we got in a week of tour and knowledge and eating and fun! But in only one day! He had amazing energy grace and knowledge. I highly recommend him!

Oguz was fantastic! Friendly, energetic took us whenever we wanted to go. His timing was perfect in visiting Sophia and blue mosque. Took us to a great restaurant and ordered for us! We had a wonderful day!

we spent 2 days touring with Oguz in Istanbul, one on foot and one in the car. He was very knowledgeable, and we had lots of fun! We ate great food in small local restaurants, nothing "touristy". And he showed us marvelous shops with quality art, rugs, etc. We were sorry to see it come to an end. I can recommend touring with Oguz with enthusiasm. Thanks Oguz!!

Oguz made Istanbul comfortable and accessible despite Turkey was two days into unrest. Our walking tour allowed us to experience and enjoy both ancient and modern aspects of this wonderful city. Oguz used his knowledge of the city, it's popular sites, and crowd patterns to schedule our time to see the most we could avoiding problems. After 12 hours our family felt that we had enjoyed complete visits to major sites as well as old town. We certainly plan to revisit Istanbul and hope to tour with Oguz.

OZ is truly a 'local' and a charming one at that. He is less of a guide however. Therefore the 'tour' was quite casual and at times unfocussed; not quite what we had expected. He seemed most comfortable in the local markets and activities, and in sharing stories of life.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: This traveler has originally lost about half a day of the tour : ( commuting roundtrip from Marriott Asiatic Istanbul plus the lunch ) but blaming the wrong person. For the remainder half of the day - 4 hours ; obviously the 8 hour tour content can not be done. We did markets and the New Mosque , hippodrome, Blue mosque, and Hagia Sophia. This much is fair; his review is rather unfair. Please also read the other 80 comments :) Especially Mrs Maeona M...'s, once an official visitor to Turkey - twice.
We loved out time in Istanbul and would love to go back. We think, part of the success of the trip was due to our fabulous tour guide - Oguz. We have highly recommended him and Tours by Locals to everyone!

This was a very interesting walking tour that we enjoyed very much. We did not like the fact that Oguz took us to a carpet seller who tried to sell carpets to us for about 50 minutes. Otherwise is was a great experience.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Bazaars and stores are next to each other and to get to one you must walk through another.I don't take visitors to "a shop".But when asked, I advise of stores that match their interest, those stores carry unusual cultural products/antiques and an adult can be be there for 5 mins or 50 mins.As Mrs Ashdown said;all it takes is stand up and politely thank for the great info.I was the one saying thanks to the merchant;saying we need to make a move to be on time for Blue Mosque(as it closes for prayer times)
TOURSBYLOCALS RESPONSE: We've spoken with Oguz about this review and he is surprised. His guide support manager was made aware of the situation as well and is working with him on an action plan to avoid situations such as the one mentioned to happen again.

Oguz was wonderful. He really cared about our experience. I am a history teacher with lots of questions and my wife wanted to shop. He made us both happy. I heartily recommend him as a guide. Turkey is a wonderful place to visit and he will show you what you want to see. We hope to return and go farther afield next time. Thanks!
Extremely knowledgeable of his history. A pleasant personality. Only complaint would be the amount of time spent being taken to shops after actual tour. One or two would be enough. I would recommend Oguz to any of my friends travelling to Istanbul.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Meeting you was a pleasure and I feel sorry for the shop reference:) These stores have some Istanbul treasures beyond the merchandise (we were stuck in none, just kept moving). One shop showed us a surprising Byzantine feature - the 2 columns of a Roman-Byzantine palace and a 4th century AD column rising from the basement Another showed a 6th century Byzantine cistern and Istanbul overview. As well we went to an art store - Istanbul drawings book you wanted to see.

Oguz is a superb tour guide. He kept the attention of my 5 and 7 year old grandchildren for over an hour in Aya Sofia. This was my third trip to the museum in the past three years, and I learned more this time and enjoyed it more as I watched the interactions between Oguz and my children. I know we just skimmed the surface of his knowledge. He anticipated our needs and had a van for us when needed. We experienced an unprecedented wind and rain storm in the afternoon, but Oguz's energy kept us going.
