First the vehicle since we spent quite a lot of time while we were in Phnom Penh - clean, comfortable and stocked with cold water which was quite the nice touch in the hot and humid climate. Polan was quite the friendly, nice and informative person. He was prompt in picking us up from the airport and took us to all the sites we had agreed upon earlier and provided great details on all the places we visited there. All in all, I would definitely recommend using Polan's services for driving you around PNH
We went on The Lost Plate tour in Siem Reap in Cambodia. Absolutely fantastic. Our hostess for the evening was such fun and so informative. We went to places we would never have experienced - local food for local people by local people - and what a great experience it was. Thoroughly recommended.

Lan was on time. He did a great job. His English was good. He knew a lot about the places we were going. He made me feel safe. He will make a great guide. Would use him again in future if back this way.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Stanley, thanks for your feedback. I just passed my tour guide examination, so take 4 month to study and training 2 month before i get my official license. If you have a chance to return to Phnom Penh next year i will accompany and treat you better than this time. Your hospitality is my duty. Lots of lave. Lan

Polan was outstanding. Although he couldn't go into all of the sites himself, where he couldn't he hooked us up with a knowledgeable guide or briefed us thoroughly and helped us with audio guides. Highly recommend

We were met promptly by our guide Lan. He was very pleasant and spoke great English. Lan was very knowledgeable and shared his personal family story of growing up in Cambodia. We visited the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Killing Fields. Very powerful to experience these sites. Both days were filled with sights and sounds of everyday Cambodia. The ferry ride to Silk Island and lunch at Lan's family home was the hight light of the two days. Lan was an excellent guide.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Daer Kevin & Liz - Thank you very much for feedback. I so appreciate your help. Thanks again for using Toursbylocals services. Enjoy your stay in Cambodia. All the best, Lan

Our second tour with Polan K following yesterdays disaster. We were taken to a local silk farm where nobody spoke English and our Guide new nothing about what we were seeing. We then went to the home of one of his relatives, which was quite interesting. Our Guide spent a lot of time either on his mobile phone or going off to speak with his friends and seemed generally disinterested in our satisfaction. I would NOT recommend taking any tours with this Guide.

This was the first of 7 tours we booked with Tours by Locals during our trip to Cambodia and Vietnam and was by far the worst and extremely disappointing. Our Guide merely acted as a taxi driver taking us to the Genocide Museum and Killing Fields where he stayed outside and we were given audio guides and then to the Royal Palace where he handed us over to a Palace guide. Quite frankly we could have organised this ourselves for the cost of a Tuk Tuk and the entrance tickets.

A moving and extremely informative insight into the dark years of the Khmer Rouge and the dreadful suffering of the Cambodian people. A special thank you to LAN for his well organised and extremely professional tour. Once again ToursByLocals paid off and we experienced far more than we could have ever hoped with the professionalism and knowledge of this guide. Thank you.

Polan is amazing! We had such a great time seeing and learning the history of the sites in Phnom Penh. He has a great sense of humor and is extremely knowledgeable about the different places we visited. There was a great balance of information and giving us time alone, especially when we visited Choueng Ek and Tuol Sleng. Hearing his own personal experiences was very emotional but added so much depth. Thanks so much for sharing your story and hospitality, Lan! Highly recommend him!

I highly recommend touring with "Lan"! He is very knowledgeable, speaks fluent English and is easily understood. He was punctual and customized the tour that I wanted to see. His personal (and tragic) family experiences ensure he is able to convey the full-scale of pain suffered during Cambodia's dark period. He understands the long history of his country and can bring many details to life. Lan has his own Tuk Tuk and took me around in it. I always felt safe - he's a great driver. Thanks Lan!

Excellent tour yesterday with Mr Lan, using his comfortable minivan. Mr Lan speaks perfect English (a bit of French too), and gave us many very interesting explanations about Phnom Penh and the history of Cambodia. Thank you Mr Lan !!

Poland was an excellent tour guide. He spoke very good English and was engaging. Particularly moving was his recollection of the macabre Khymer Rouge days. The words he spoke will forever be remembered by me, He is very highly recommended

Lan was excellent.Typhoon Lando delayed us and he kept optional dates open. Our 6 day stay in PP reduced to 1.5 so we had to substantially rethink the program. Lan was flexible, picked us up at the airport to maximise the time we had with him, and open to all our last minute replanning. He has that knack of knowing when to leave us alone (Choueng Ek) and when to give us information. His personal history helped to illuminate Tuol Sleng in a very personal and touching way. Wish we had more time with him.
Lan was an excellent guide. We requested an airconditioned mini van as we were a group of 4. He was knowledgeable, polite, gentle and had excellent English. he told us his families story about the regime. We visited the Killing Fields and S21 prison,(extremely sad) Royal Palace and Markets and had a lunch at a good restaurant recommended by Lan. This tour makes you appreciate the people of Cambodia and their struggle. Would recommend Lan!!

We enjoyed Oudong Old City but thought we would of seen a bit more like seeing the residential or something. Don't get me wrong we liked what we saw but be aware you need a lot of energy for walking up & down steps We opted to do around 5 hours only just to see Oudong City but had to pay for full day tour which I wouldn't do again and in that time we got stuck in a traffic jam to do with VIP for over half an hour The guide was very nice & helpful If you are doing Oudong don't do it in the heat of day
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: They just want to see The Oudong, they don't want to see the other things. I took them to visit two places, first visit pagoda near by the Oudong Mountain call ( Vipassana Thurak ) where the monks and nuns do the meditation and than we clamb up to the hill to see the old temple. It was stuck on the way back about 40mn because the police blocked the road, when we arrived hotel around 4PM. Total about 7 hours for this tour
TOURSBYLOCALS RESPONSE: We have asked Polan to consider offering this tour at a different time of day and reminded him to set the duration of his tours accurately, as this tour was listed at 8 hours when it was only meant to be 5

Lan is an outstanding guide. This is my second tour with him, and we went to completely different places. Additionally, Lan is able to add his personal, local flavor to all places visited. Of all the Tours By Locals guides I have used in Thailand, Indonesia, Laos and Vietnam, Lan is head and shoulders the very best of all of them. Highly recommended.
