A very friendly, informative, knowledgeable and experienced guide. We appreciated the information Mario shared with us about the Canal, the Chagres River and the Gamboa region. He and our boat driver had keen eyes for spotting wildlife and let us spend as much time as we wanted viewing them. He was great about teaching us about the wildlife, the flora and even the currents on the river as cargo ships passed. We especially appreciated how he took the time on Shrove Tuesday to be with us.

Mario provided a great tour of Soberania for us. His in-depth information and hard work to show us wildlife was excellent. He had a telescope to see distant or close up animals much better than binoculars. He provided comfortable logistics and a good lunch. We would definitely recommend this tour!

To put it directly, you could not have a better guide then Mario to introduce you to Panama. My wife and I spent a wonderful day with Mario touring the Agua Clara Locks, San Lorenzo Nat'l Park and San Lorenzo Fort. A great combination of history, nature and culture. Mario was very informative and comfortable discussing all the different areas covered by such a tour. He was very relaxed and accommodating. I'm sure you will be happy with any tour you book with him. Would absolutely book with Mario again.

He modified his normal schedule for this tour to accommodate our interests and did a great job of interacting with us. We were delighted with his courteous and sensitive approach to his time with us ! Highly recommended !

If you want an historic and modern history of Panama City and Panama Canal, then you definately need to book your tour with Mario. He is friendly, charming and very informed. His vehicle is large, new and clean.Mario accompanied us to the Biomuseo acting as our personal docent! Afterwards we went to a local Panamanian restaurant for lunch. I can with all certainty state that you will not be disappointed if you book your tour with Mario. You will be amazed!

Mario met us at the airport with a warm friendly smile. He gave us a good idea of the lay of the land by taking us in his new roomy clean automobile to see the various areas. Mario's command of the Panamanian History was superb! The history of the Panama Canal was informative and interesting. He explained how the metropolitan city grew exponentially since Panamanians took over the canal from US in 2000. Mario is a former teacher and he taught us well about the new Panama City and the historic Panama.

Mario was friendly, courteous, & very patient. I would highly recommend Mario for anyone wishing to learn more about the natural history of Panama.

A once in a lifetime experience!!! The tour with Mario to the caves at the Bayano Lake is a true adventure with unforgettable views. It rather felt like being on a trip with a friend than a guide. Mario is punctual, communicative, friendly and well prepared. We recommend this tour to everyone that is good by foot, adventurous and seeking something apart the usual tourist sights. Thanks again Mario and always save travels :)

A fun day with Mario in Panama City! He guided us through the ruins of Panama Viejo as well as the museum, pointing out highlights, telling fascinating stories. Thoughtfully made us note buildings in anticipation of where they were moved brick by brick to Casco Viejo. Delightful walking through Casco Viejo after a delicious locals lunch, Mario paced us perfectly & avoided bus crowds. Tour of the Gehry-designed BioDiversity Museum was jaw-dropping. Mario is a stellar guide to see the best of the city.

This is the third time we have used Mario. We had family and friends along on the tour. All agreed he was terrific, informative and managed our time in Panama with sights we would not have otherwise seen. We will definitely use him again when we are next in Panama and happily refer him to friends.

My first time taking a tour like this, and it has motivated me to take more than the future. Mario is an expert naturalist and it was so fun to see so many birds and mammals that I would've had NO chance of seeing on my own. Truly an unforgettable experience in a tropical forest. He was so friendly and generous, and I can't recommend this tour enough!

I can't say enough about how great this tour was. Mario is so knowledgeable and entertaining and really made our trip to Panama a joy. As we toured around the canal in the boat, we saw groups of tourists squished into boats like sardines and were so grateful for our choice to use ToursbyLocals and have a more personalized, comfortable experience. Great job, Mario! We are referring everyone we know to use your tour services when visiting Panama.

This tour of Soberania National Park was awesome! Waking up early on vacation is unheard of for our family, but it was totally worth it to see the sun rise over the jungle. Climbing the tower in the middle of the jungle and being able to see above the canopy was amazing. The animals were just waking up and we saw a sloth almost immediately (one of our hopes for the tour). Mario was just superb in giving us a unique view of Panama and the beautiful flora and fauna. Great job, Mario!!!

This tour of Panama City and Casco Viejo was awesome. Mario showed us all around the city and gave terrific background and stories of the areas. Our experience was so much deeper and richer than if we'd tried wandering around the old town on our own. The visit to the gelato shop was a highlight and it really was one of the best gelatos in the world (and we've tried many). We can't say enough to recommend Mario's tours when visiting Panama!

Mario took us out for ONE MORE TOUR! It is like going out with a good friend, by now, as this is our 5th tour with him. This time we took a boat to a village of the Embera, a group of indigenous people who clearly greeted him with gladness, as he respects them and makes sure they show their triumphs, from rebuilding burnt lodgings to their water systems (and nice rest rooms). Dancing, music, talking to the Botanist/healer and then shopping in the tables with goods made by each family! Marvelous day!

Mario is a star guide, but also knowledgeable about the animals in the area. He knows how to find them long before you see them - and is also careful not to tease or spoil these wild animals. Such a marvelous trip, close to the huge ships that are traversing the Panama Canal. I highly recommend this trip as a way to envision the full challenge presented to everyone dealing with its construction.

What a beautiful ride and opportunity to see the Locks in Colon! Then a change of pace as we keep our eyes peeled for the myriad animals in the San Lorenzo National Park! Take the time to write down the names of all the animals and birds you see - you won't remember them all! Mario is not only sharp-eyed and knowledgeable, he also adds more depth to the experience with his caring about the biodiversity in this land! He also surprises us feeding us before we knew we were hungry...and timely rest rooms!

Mario again blew our mind with his fantastic ability to guide and host at the same time - Safely driving us and then arranging for a safe boat trip to a beautiful, peaceful island with lovely warm calm waters on one side, and softly lapping waves on the other! How wonderful to take a break here from our busy tours - and then exploring the nearby forts. Again, we learned about the long history of dealing with pirates and others who attacked these lands over and over! Mario is a master guide!

Mario demonstrated what a flexible tour guide he is during this tour! He took us everywhere described...and in addition the Butterfly center and the Biomuseum...which we didn't even know we would want to see...until we did! He listens and provides opportunities for those he is hosting. Yes, we felt he was hosting us, not just "touring" us! Snacks, restrooms, meal times were all flawlessly worked our five (yes, 5) trips together! This trip includes history, architecture and local artisans!

Mario did a great job. Picked me up promptly at the hotel and took me straight to a tour of the canals. He wanted to start straight when they opened which was definitely the correct approach because crowds arrived soon afterwards. I only had a few hours before my flight out but we still had time to tour the old part of the city before he took me out to the airport.

A GREAT day from start to finish! Mario showed us the most interesting sights of Panama, as well as special requests from us. We especially enjoyed the restaurant he selected for lunch, an obvious Panama favorite. He shared many insights and was a superb driver, and very courteous. We couldnt have had a better day, and it was the highlight of our twenty day cruise. Carol and Bob Harlan April 16, 2019

Mario is an excellent guide. We were picked up on time. We never felt rushed on this tour. Mario is extremely knowledgeable and speaks excellent English. He knows his birds by their call and brought a scope so we could see animals close up. Mario would spot sloths, monkeys, and birds that we would have walked right past. He also had a very nice bird book that we could cross reference. My only suggestion would be to improve the lunch - we had cold dried rice and chicken. Absolutely recommend!!
