Lee is definitely the guide to use if you want the real Lake Atitlan experience. He knows the history and culture of each of the small towns that surround the lake. If you want kayaking, paddle boarding, and hiking, he can provide it. If you want sightseeing, culture, local cuisine, he knows it. Lastly, when you go to buy some of Guatemala's incredible weavings, he will take you to all the best weavers. Wonderful tour!
Lee did a wonderful job of explaining the history and culture of Antigua. He knows all the interesting spots and even a few off the grid locations. Excellent!

Lee is great and his tour was exactly what we wanted. He is knowledgeable, humorous and accommodating and because he lives in the area, he showed us the very best of this gorgeous part of the world. On top of the boat cruise, lunch, hike, coffee and great conversation, he also took us to Amigos De Santa Cruz. This program offers education/training to indigenous people, providing economic independance and improving lives. He's a tremendous guide AND dedicated to empowering locals.

We highly recommend Lee Beal as a guide. He picked us up in Antigua and drove us to Lake Atitlan where he hired a private boat to take us to two Mayan villages Santa Cruz and San Juan. His knowledge of the Mayan people, their history, and traditions, particularly weaving, added to the enjoyment. The next day he drove us to the Sunday market at Chichicastenago. He deftly steered us through the chaotic market so we got to see a lot of trading, as well as the regional museum, church, and chapel. Memorable.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you Scott and Pat. I enjoyed meeting you and learning about your life's work. May our paths cross again!!

Lee is great! I challenged him to put together a full day tour into the highlands of Guatemala to search for vintage Guatemalan textiles. We had a great day on the drive from Antigua to Chichicastenango, searching through the back alley shops full of incredible old textiles, and then back to Antigua. The next day we had breakfast at El Tenador del Cerro, a mountain top restaurant with incredible views and better food. Lee is all about the ethical treatment of the Mayan population of Guatemala.

We've always had a great experience with Tours by Locals but this one was exceptional. Lee is a walking / boat-riding encyclopedia: with great insights rather than fact recitation. Extremely personable. Very accommodating of all our particular interests, idiosyncrasies, and tempo / pacing preferences. He made excellent choices in showing us 3 villages (San Marcos, San Juan, and Santiago) with very different "personalities". We could not have asked for a better guide or a better day. Thanks, Lee !

Great tour with Lee(a transplanted American). The absolute highlight was a home cooked lunch at a locals' home in San Pedro on Lake Atitlan. Anita & her family were fantastic hosts & great cooks!!! Lee was prompt with his replies and pulled together a great last minute trip for me. Once he met me, he was tuned in to what my interests were & catered to them and had great advice. I recommend Lee and would book with him again.

Great trip! I was so lucky to have two guides on my trip! Lee,a transplanted American, brought Anita (born & raised in the Lake Atitlan area) who was training with him. It was great to have two points of view! I really enjoyed the Sololá Market - I didn't see many other tourists there; a locals market. Really great place to go if you like to take photos! Locals may ask for a few cents to B photographed, so have small bills. Anita was great help with negotiating. Definitely recommend Lee's tours!

Lee's lake village tour was cultural treat and it was definitely one of the highlights of our week in Guatemala. If you find foreign cultures and places interesting, this tour is one of the best!

It was certainly a pleasure for the four us to have spent a day with Lee visiting villages on Lake Atitlan. He is interesting, accommodating, very hospitable and knowledgeable. As my husband said, Lee "made our trip to Guatemala". We would like to recommend Lee and thank him for a delightful day. Mary H De Fraites
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you very much for your comments. I enjoyed the day as much as you. I learned how Guatemala and travel has changed in the 50 years since your last visit. I hope you return soon, and be sure to pass the word on to your friends about the wonders of Guatemala. Warmest Regards, Lee
