Great job, well spoken and very knowledgeable and personable. Was able to fill in with commentary when we had to wait at the worlds longest stop light. Adjusted his program at the last minute at my request and finished on time so group could makes it's next destination on time.

Phil is a very knowledgable guide to the fascinating city of Pittsburgh. He shares his insights and facts freely, and is an excellent listener when it comes to questions and what it is you're looking to achieve on the tour. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Fallingwater and our tour of the steel towns.
Finding Falling Water and nearby Kentuk Knob would be difficult. There are few road signs. Going with Phil was great. He provided useful background info on the way and got us there before the crowds arrived. We thoroughly recommend his tour.

Phil was incredibly accommodating and giving of his time. My daughter and I learned a great deal about Pittsburgh's steel history and how the economy has transformed. With trips to Homestead, the Henry Clay Frick mansion and a ride through the university district we were able to experience a great deal more of the city than we would have otherwise been able to (staying downtown without a car). Phil is knowledgeable and tailors his tour to suit the interests of his guests.

Phil J. is the historian type of guide which my daughter and I appreciated. When we arrived in the Amish areas/towns, we toured the schools, churches, town stores, Amish businesses which included a fruit stand, furniture, and quilt store, and a Big Country Store which featured Amish donuts, popcorn, food, and Amish home remedies. The ride was so comfortable and Phil's van had cup holders and nice seats. Phil knew the Public Rest Areas as well. The town folk held their 1st annual Harry Potter Fest.

Phil is simply the best guide I've ever had - helpful, deeply knowledgeable, friendly, and generous with his time and expertise. He provided more background information on Falling Water than the tour there gave and was very much better informed than the guide at Kentuck Knob. Many, many thanks, Tours by Locals and Phil!
Everything was perfect, Phil was right on time early in the morning, drove very carefully, was thoughtful and very patient. I recommend his tour without any hesitation.

Tour was excellent and we would certainly do it again. Jeff was very friendly and knowledgeable and provided a lot of interesting facts for us to take away from our experience. He picked us up at our Hotel and returned us there afterwards so it was very convenient. Very pleased and well worth the money.

Well organized and very knowledgeable pleasing and engaging personality
Phil is extremely knowledgeable, very personable and passionate about his city. Our tour was well paced and gave us a very good overview of the history of Pittsburgh and some of its neighbourhoods. Phil opened doors that would have been locked to us had we been on our own. Phil was able to answer our many questions. Phil asked what we had already seen and personalized our tour to maximize the number of new things we saw. Four of us were on the tour. We would all highly recommend a tour with Phil.

On a rainy and foggy day, Phil made the city of Pittsburgh come alive. He took us to the top of the city where we had an overview of the area below and a lesson on Pittsburgh's history. As well, he covered all the major areas with its churches and buildings as he expertly drove around. His knowledge of the history of Steel City was in-depth. The highlight was his tour of the Cathedral of Learning and its unique class rooms.
Phil was punctual and not only got us to Fallingwater but provided us with a running commentary during our drive. He was pleasant company and most accommodating.
Our tour to Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob was one of the highlights of our lives. We knew the houses were special already. Our driver and guide, Phil, enhanced our experience with his considerable knowledge of the area and it's history. His driving was very safe, he was great company and he gave us many tips on how to get the most out of our time in Pittsburgh.

The tour consisted of a two hour drive with commentary around Pittsburgh and a few adjacent suburbs. There was one stop where we left the car at the overlook on Mount Washington. Phil was very knowledgeable and described community history and points of interest along the way. He responded to questions clearly and dropped us off at the destination of our choice (the Carnegie Museum complex.)

This is THE way to do Fallingwater. No worries, just let Phil do all the work and just sit back and relax while he takes excellent care of you. Phil was knowledgeable about the area and the tours and made sure we were where we needed to be when we needed to be there. There were three of us ladies, and we always felt comfortable and safe. In fact, a couple of us even napped a little on the way back to Pittsburgh. We highly recommend taking advantage of this wonderful service!

Extremely efficient operation. Timely and cooperative driver/guide. Made great suggestions as to which time of day to take the tour and to add the Kentuck Knob tour to our agenda to see Falling Waters. Would highly recommend Tours by Locals.
We had the best day, Phil was especially great; very knowledgeable and informative. Phil even suggested an extra stop at the famous river/white Rapids. Thanks again for making the pilgrimage of a lifetime so wonderful....highly recommended.

Phil was a highlight of our family celebration! This was a family reunion of people who had grown up in Pittsburgh but hadn't lived here for 50 years. He was very accommodating & took us to some childhood sites that would never make a standard tour's itinerary! He really went above & beyond when he discovered that we had left behind some items and drove them all the way to the place we were having dinner that evening to return them! Very much appreciated by all.
Fabulous from start to finish. Thank you, Phil.
the tour was great phil is good person Very patient, waiting for me while I was taking my photos jaa , thanks very much phil for the tour had a relax moment in the falling water, kentuckknop and city tour , 100% recomended
We were very satisfied with Phil who took us to Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water and Kentuck Knob houses. We were picked up on time at our hotel, and we arrived on time before the influx of other tourists. He even took us on a sidetrip to a very scenic river in ohiopyle. For that we were very grateful as it was not part of the itinerary. Phil is a very reliable guide and we rate him at 5 stars. We will surely recommend him and tours by locals to our friends planning to visit Pittsburgh!

We had never heard of Tours By Locals but found it on a Google search. We called the 1-800 number and someone called back instantly from London to give us some suggestions. Someone else called back later from Vancouver and we arranged a three hour tour with Phil for the next morning. It was fabulous and a great way to be introduced to any city. We definitely intend to do this wherever we travel in future.

I could not have asked for a better guide. He came on time and the drive was very pleasant and interesting. Phil talked about the area and its history. There was a mix-up in the Falling Water booking and Phil helped to straighten it out. He explained where to have lunch and we were then off to Kentuck Knob. On the return home he gave me a quick tour of Pittsburgh and explained buildings of interest. Thank you very much for providing this service and an excellent guide. Catherine Peponis

Phil was a wonderful guide - took his tour to Fallingwater, which he then modified to go to the Flight 93 memorial instead of Kentuck Knob. Phil is knowledgeable about the area and answered many questions on the drive. He was also very patient, allowing me the time I wanted at the memorial. Then he was kind enough to drop me at the airport for the trip home. All in all, it was a great day visiting the area.

What a great find!! Phil was wonderful. From our first contact about reserving a tour to his email letting me know everyone reached the airport the day of the tour, Phil was professional, kind and specialized the tour to our graduate applicants visiting Pittsburgh. We will definitely use his services in the future. Thank you!!
Phil was punctual had plotted out an itinerary which was exactly what we wanted - we had a brief walking tour of interesting downtown architecture and then a driving tour of many of Pittsburgh's interesting neighborhoods Mount Washington, the Mexican Wars Streets, the Strip, Lawrenceville, East Liberty, Shadyside, U of P and the Cathedral of Learning and back downtown. Phil was very knowledgeable on the history of Pittsburgh, polite and answered all of our questions - it was a great tour
Very safe & professional and knowledgable. Transportation to and from Fallingwater.
We found Phil to be a little disappointing compared to other tour guides we have experienced. He did not live up to previous reviews. He lacked the enthusiasm to talk to us. There wasn't much commentary which left us wondering what the significance of some places were. His driving was worrisome and he frequently veered across lanes and toward the centre barricade. We wondered if he had a hangover. Despite this we had a lovely day visiting Falling water. I would not travel with him again.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: I apologize for not informing you beforehand that I was on medication and not feeling "up to snuff" that day. I'm glad you enjoyed Fallingwater. Phil
TOURSBYLOCALS RESPONSE: This traveler has been given a credit towards a future tour as compensation for her poor experience.

Really enjoyed the tour with Phil. A friendly, knowledgable guy who went out of his way to make sure I enjoyed it. He was also happy to add an extra bit on to the tour at my request at the end. The car was clean and tidy and the driving was good too. Very happy to recommend.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thanks, Niall! I'm glad you enjoyed the tour! Let me know the next time you're in the area and we'll do Pittsburgh! Thanks again! Phil

Phil is a very knowledgeable local, so he is able to add interesting pieces of information about Pittsburgh that you didn't know you didn't know. Phil was our guide in Pittsburgh. We went to Falling Water and then had a city tour of Pittsburgh in the afternoon. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the day. Phil picked us up on time. It was a 1 1/2 hour trek there. Falling Water was awesome. When we returned to Pittsburgh we felt we had a thorough tour of the city. We went inside a few buildings that were interesting. Ethnic classrooms, pretty churches, one with Tiffany glass windows. Also went to the top of one of the inclines for the view

We booked a 2:30 pm tour but our flight was delayed, and Phil accommodated a later start time, which was very gracious. We picked us up at our hotel and gave us an informative, interesting tour of Pittsburgh's neighborhoods. I am a new resident so it was great seeing the wide variety of neighborhoods in this wonderful city - many I had heard of but had not visited before. I took a lot of notes regarding places I wanted to come back to. Phil's car was clean and comfortable, and he is very friendly.

I took the Pittsburgh History tour with a client of mine, who had never been to Pittsburgh, and I know he came away with a great impression of the city, thanks to Phil's informative and enjoyable tour. Phil is a excellent guide, and he provided many fascinating details about the city. I was truly delighted with the experience.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thanks, Kathi! It's always a challenge when there's a "local" on board, I'm glad you both enjoyed it! Call me again, anytime you need my services! Phil
Phil was informed, had a great mannerism and in addition to Falling water showed me some historic sites in Pittsburgh that demonstrated a thorough understanding of the history of the area. Thanks Phil!

Phil arrived promptly and was very knowledgeable about Pittsburgh, it's history and interesting places. Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob are must sees if you are in the area. The downside of the tour was the condition of Phil's car, it had a cracked windscreen and several dents, which I think is unacceptable for a professional guide. I also found Phil's driving very scary at times.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: I appreciate your comments about the tour itself, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I describe my car on my tour page as being 10 years old with a lot of mileage, but still passes inspection, even with the dents and scrapes. The windshield is scheduled to to be replaced this week.
TOURSBYLOCALS RESPONSE: The traveler was partially compensated for the experience. As well, the guide has replaced his windshield.
Friendly, knowledgeable, prompt. Took the stress out of travelling. It was a great day with extra information about Pittsburg's history. Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob are must sees for this part of US.
A great tour. Phil was very accommodating and enabled us to have an enjoyable tour around Pittsburgh Amish Country.
This tour is top class. Phil knows his stuff and operates as a professional. He recommended a second FLW house tour close by which potentiated the overall experience. A round off visit to a church near my hotel to see wonderful Lalique stained glass was a great finish.
This was a suggestion by Phil and sparked my interest as I wanted to get a sense of Pittsburgh as well as Falling Water. As it happened I had broken the glass of my phone the night before so Phil drove me to the Apple shop in the Univercities district as part of the tour. Pittsburgh is a beautifully sited city which I would not otherwise have realised in a short stay.

Although the morning weather was unexpectedly bad because of unexpected snow storm, Phil tried to drive to Fallingwater in time for 8:45 In Depth tour. We were 10 minutes late but other visitors in my tour were also late because of the bad weather. So luckily I could enjoy the tour. Phil explained me not only about Fallingwater background but also about Pittsburgh. After the tour, he drove me around the city and showed me the beautiful view of the city and landmarks. This was a memorable trip to me.

Being born and raised in Pittsburgh, I thought I knew everything there was to know about Pittsburgh. Boy was I wrong. Phil knows his stuff. This was one of the best tours we've ever taken. On Thursday, May 29th, my southern friends and I toured Pittsburgh in the capable hands of Phil. Although the day was a little rainy, we had a marvelous time. Our guide made all the difference. He was personable, knowledgeable, and the flow of information was dispensed with clarity and conciseness. He avoided "chattering". Phil helped me show off Pittsburgh to my guests who had never been to our unique city. Your service and Phil's professional demeanor deserve a 5+
We were visiting Pittsburgh from Australia and were so lucky to have Phil, an impeccable professional, as our guide. Our first stop was Fallingwater and his advice to book the first tour was invaluable, as was his knowledgeable conversation on the trip there and back. Phil has great people skills, and his suggestions for what else might interest us in Pittsburgh were 100% spot on, so we had both a very memorable day with him but also a fantastic holiday in Pittsburgh. Sincere thanks, Phil

We were very thrilled to have Phil J. as our tour guide while in the Pittsburgh area. Communicating with Phil prior to our arrival was easy, and he always emailed us back in a timely manner. Arriving at our hotel on time, we were off for our trip to Fallingwater. His knowledge and expertise of the area was most impressive. On our return to the city, he took us around to some of the important, architecturally important neighborhoods and also, made a few personal stops for us. We highly recommend Phil J.

We asked Phil to give us a tour of Pittsburgh that included the highlights and neighborhoods tours together. Phil delivered with style, humor, and a depth of knowledge surpassing our expectations. History, architecture, geography, culinary, neighborhood and real estate details were all addressed. Phil is highly professional, yet accessible, friendly, and personable. Highest marks for quality of tour, tour guide, and overall satisfaction!
My family of five did the Pittsburgh highlights. With three children aged 8, 9, 10 I was worried they would not be as engaged with the tour as I knew we would be. I couldn't have been more wrong, they loved it. Phil was a fantastic guide, my 8 year old said after the tour that he was one of the smartest men he'd met because he knew everything! We saw plenty of great sites, learned a lot of history, did a bit of shopping and had a great lunch at Primanti Bros. Couldn't have been better. Truly memorable!

Phil was an excellent guide. The route to Fallingwater is not clearly marked and not GPS-friendly but Phil dropped me off right on time. I would recommend the first tour of the day as it allows for picture taking and has fewer participants. There was plenty of time left and Phil gave me a tour of the Pittsburgh neighborhoods. The streets were tricky to navigate and again Phil was a real trooper. It was a VIP experience and, best of all, it made me want to come back for more. Thanks Phil!

If we could give Phil J 10 stars, we certainly would. Phil found not one but two interesting guided tours for us to add into his usual Pittsburgh Steel Heritage Tour, making our understanding of the Homestead works and strike all the better. But then, he surprised us by taking us for a superb, private, guided tour of the Frick Mansion, thus showing us the lifestyle of one of Pittsburgh's most important steel magnates. For his thoughtfulness, as well as his historical knowledge, we recommend him highly!

Phil J knocked himself out to make sure that I got to see the very places in Pittsburgh that were important to my ancestors. He not only did extraordinary research in advance of our tour, he also had made special arrangements for two locations not usually open to the public to allow us in. Phil is a remarkably fine personal guide, and we give him our highest praise and thanks. We recommend him to anyone wishing to go beyond the normal climb on-climb off tourist bus tour!

Phil was wonderful! Not only did he tailor the tour for our interests, but he also accommodated one of our party who had difficulty walking. In addition to the highlights, he incorporated some hidden gems (a beautiful church with Tiffany windows, the oldest courtroom in the courthouse, etc.) and neighborhoods that were unknown even to me, a Pitt grad. My friends from Tacoma, Washington were so impressed that we've decided to book his tour of Pittsburgh churches next summer. I highly recommend him!!

My guide Phil provided a wonderful walking/driving overview tour of Pittsburgh, a beautiful city! He knew my primary interest was architecture and tailored my tour to provide wonderful photo-ops (I'm an architectural photographer based in Chicago). Views of PNC Park, the numerous river bridges, Monongohela Incline, all were locations to which I returned and was able to take wonderful photos. Phil is very knowledgeable of the architecture and history of Pittsburgh that was exactly what I needed!
