George was FANTASTIC. I really keyed in on the interest we had and provided a wealth of information about those things. This was one of the best tours my wife and I have ever taken.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you for the review Carter. On the other hand I have to put your comments in perspective as the Tour you compared me with was your visit last year to CLEVELAND! Seriously, I really enjoyed showing you and your wife around. It was a lot of fun for me. Be safe in the FedEx skies. Best wishes for a great Holiday Season. All Good things, GSTD

Everything about this tour was 5 star. We learned the history of Pittsburgh as well as seeing the most relevant sites. George, our guide, was very knowledgeable and his passion for the city was quite evident. We are so glad to have discovered Tours By Locals on line. It will be our go to site from now on.

We are over from Ireland and fallingwater was booked out so George took us on the most excellent and informative tour of Pittsburgh. His knowledge good humor and delivery is perfect from the best deli to history to geography and superb restaurant recommendations. George is the encyclopedia of Pittsburgh. We would recommend this tour to visitors as you will learn so much about the city and suburbs you will be informed and astonished. Thank you George from Johnny's Dan & Robby. Go Steelers.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: What can I say, Johnny? Not only did I have a blast with you and your buddies, but you came through and delivered one of the most exciting games in Heinz Field history. And I'm so glad I had a chance to set you straight about Henry Clay Frick. Thank you for the opportunity to build on your knowledge of Pittsburgh. It appears all of our communications back and forth worked out well for all four of us. Best regards to Dan and Robby. Happy Holidays. GSTD

We gone to Pittsburgh from Japan, and we enjoyed very very meaningful sightseeing of Fallingwater. I wish to go Pittsburg next year and see you George again. TOYOTA Akira.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: It was a real pleasure for me, Akira. Fun to introduce you to Ohiopyle Falls, Hagan Ice Cream, and Arby's along with Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. Ever since you left the weather has been cold, damp and windy. It seems as though you took the gorgeous Fall weather back to Japan with you. I hope you can make it back to Pittsburgh and stay longer the next time. Best regards to your two colleagues. I trust they enjoyed the Trip as well. Can you send me any pictures? Yours truly, GSTD

Date: Oct 18/17

We wished a tour highlighting the now historic steel industry. George is very well versed and has a unique connection through his grandfathers participation in the battle of Homestead. He is also a slightly quirky and proud Pittsburgh character. George queried our other interests and managed to slip in some sidelights responding to those (architecture, history). One negative, he needs to park his cell phone while conducting a tour - quite irritating to the customer you have (and unsafe when driving).

George looked after us impeccably. His local knowledge and history information helped add to the enjoyment of our trip and we had the sense that nothing was too much bother. We were extremely grateful for his flexibility to plan our itinerary to fit with our other travel commitments and all the pre-travel communication gave us confidence that it would all go smoothly, and it did!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: ...and it was a blast for me too! Thanks for letting me be the one to show you western Pennsylvania and Fallingwater. And thanks for sharing all of your Aussie knowledge with me.

George is a very passionate and energetic tour guide . If you are looking for a top-flight tour of downtown Pittsburgh you can do no better than George. His knowledge of the city's cultural, economic and sports heritage is easily appreciated by everyone from the weekend traveler to the knowledgeable historian. Traveling through Pittsburgh with George you will quickly see how "plugged in" he is to the city and people.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you so much for the kind words, Bryan. Coming from a History teacher who probably knows a lot more about this stuff than I do, I really appreciate your comments. I also want to thank Rachel for her interest and attention. Refreshing to see a young person so engaged. Thanks again.

George was knowledgeable, helpful and informative. We enjoyed the information he shared about about Pittsburgh and the steel industry. There were 10 of us and he spoke loud enough for all of us to hear his comments. He answered questions and encouraged participation. We would do this tour again and recommend it to others!

My friend and I were so pleased to get a "snapshot" of Pittsburgh from someone who really loves the city - and we did not have to do the driving! It is my father-in-law's home town and I was not expecting it to be such a great, fascinating city. I told my husband we are going back for at least 3-4 days to visit all the places we saw and did not have time to pursue.

We had a great day with George. He picked us up at 6:45AM at our downtown Pittsburgh hotel which allowed us to comfortably make our 8:30AM in depth tour at Falling Water. After inquiring about our interests and level of knowledge George kept up an enthusiastic and sometimes humorous monologue about the area, the Kaufmanns and Frank Lloyd Wright. He kept us enthralled and made the drive go quickly. After our tour we stopped for a nice lunch and kept up a lively discussion back to Pittsburgh.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: It was a great day being with you three as well. It was a special treat to be with someone who had been to "The hole in the wall" and from whom I learned a lot as well. Your neck of the woods does indeed sound like God's Country. Please pass along my regards to your wife and granddaughter. Thanks for choosing me as your guide to the Mountain.

Not even a zero wind chill could cool George's enthusiasm for Pittsburgh. My husband and I had the Fire in the Valley Tour to warm us, and the whole tour was customized for my industry focused husband. This is my second customized tour with George. I highly recommend George as a guide who is knowledgeable on any aspect of Pittsburgh that interests you.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Zero wind chill? Who noticed? We had such an interesting and enjoyable time together. And I learned a lot about titanium in Georgia. Thank you for letting me spend time with your family again.

George was an excellent tour guide--extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We covered a lot of worthwhile ground in 2 hours and made stops at places worth seeing. My three colleagues felt similarly. Very enjoyable and a good value!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Just read your comments, David. Thank you. Showing Pittsburgh to the four of you from different schools and cities made it a very interesting and enjoyable experience for me. It was especially fun having such a sports fun as you along. Thanks for teaching me a thing or two. Please convey my thanks to your colleagues as well.

George created a custom driving tour for my 87 year old mother & me. He combined his Pittsburgh Essentials tour with places of interest to my mother whose Scottish grandparents lived in the Pittsburgh area around 1904. George provided Carnegie & steel industry history & showed us the area where her grandfather would have worked & lived. George kindly provided door to door service in his private car. George is passionate about Pittsburgh and is great at telling you all about it!

My daughter and I were impressed by George not only was the tour fun but educational. I have learned that when visiting a new city it is always wise to start with a tour. This way you have a lay-of-the-land and see what you want to revisit. I would definitely recommend George to be the go- to- guy for a tour.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Describing me as the "go-to-guy" is extremely gratifying coming from an experienced traveler like yourself. I had a lot of fun as well. I trust your trip to the mountains the next day went as well as our time together did. Regards to Rachel.

George is a credit to his profession!

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you for the compliment. However, I must say I may have picked up as many insights as you did. I researched Repin's "Burlaki na Volge" and now use it when I talk about boats going upstream against the current. And I thought polling a boat from New Orleans to Pittsburgh was back (and heart) breaking! I'm also sorry we didn't get to talk more about the high yield and high strength applications of HY80 and HY100. A real education for me. Thanks for sharing the lessons.

We had booked the 8.45 am in-depth tour at Fallingwater. Despite the fact that the tour by George only gives 8.00 am as the earliest time, he was more than happy to pick us up at 6.30 am. He was highly informative about the history of the route to Fallingwater and about Fallingwater itself, which was a nice appetizer for the in-depth tour at the house. George was also very friendly and helpful generally. I would highly recommend him as your guide.

We arrived at Pittsburgh on the day that the Pittsburgh Steelers were playing the Cincinatti Bengals. Although we booked our tour for 11 am, George took the initiative to suggest a later start time to accommodate the jams that he anticipated from fans going to the game. The tour itself was both fun and informative, and George is a veritable font of information about Pittsburgh. I would highly recommend George as your guide.

George was very personable, catered to our needs, was conscious of the time and traffic situations, consistently asked if we had questions, had maps and gave us a great taste and the history of the area. I would - and have already - recommend George to my friends.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thanks for your patience during one of the craziest Friday nights of the year, Kim. It was a lot of fun traveling with you both. I'll work on getting those bridges open in time for any of your friends who come to town.

George knew much about the history of Pittsburgh and it's current status. He was funny, enthusiastic and helpful not just to us but others within earshot. We got a good overall picture of the area and places to visit after the tour was over. After this experience, we'll look for tours by locals in other areas we'll visit. Thanks for the interesting afternoon!

George has tremendous knowledge of the history of Pittsburgh and shares it a precise and colorful manner. He was very familiar with all of the highlights of the city, the shortest way to travel from one place to the next, and readily answered questions about any of the sights. He provided an excellent tour and we would highly recommend him for anyone who really wants to learn about Pittsburgh.

George was an outstanding tour guide. Don't miss the bathroom Hall of Fame at Yinzer's, you won't see this on any other tour. Special side trip to Uber's Pittsburgh headquarters gave us all a chance to see a fleet of specially equipped self driving vehicles.

TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Thank you for the good words David. I want to make sure I got this right: the high point was a bathroom and some cars. Seriously, it was a lot of fun. Thank you for the chance to share my city with you.

George's tour "Fire in the Valley" was just great. Very informative and he tailored our tour to include showing us where my grandfather lived and worked in Homestead Park, Munhall, and the Edgar Thomson Works. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in learning more of Pittsburgh and it's steel making past. Thanks George!
