History, mystery & the North Western frontier of the Roman Empire on this day tour
Rosslyn Chapel is a one of a kind 14th Century Chapel, made famous by Dan Browns "Devinci Code" but steeped in genuine mystery and legend. As you travel the world, sometimes you discover "little gems" Rosslyn is one of these!
We then head south to the Scottish borders & to Melrose for Lunch. Melrose is home to a 12th Century Abbey and a beautiful little town in the Scottish Borders.
The Borders in centuries past were called "The Debatable Lands" , due to the constant battles between Scotland & England. The actual border as we know it today has moved many times.
After lunch we cross the border into England & more precisely Northumberland, an ancient Kingdom of England in times gone by and the most fortified part of England.
Housesteads Roman Fort and Hadrians Wall ( a Unesco Heritage site since the 1980's) is our next stop. You can walk on the 73 mile wall built, in AD123 & feel the presence of a time long since past.
On our return to Edinburgh we shall stop at 12th century Jedburgh Abbey for a photo stop.
9am departure, arriving Rosslyn about 930am for visitor centre opening.
Around 11am we head south to Melrose for our lunch stop and visit to the Abbey, normally arriving in Melrose around 12noon.
After lunch we depart at 13:30 and pass Jedburgh Abbey and across the border into England.
14:30 is our normal arrival time at Hadrians Wall and departing at 16:15. We then head North again , out of enemy territory and back to Scotland.
After our final stop at Jedburgh Abbey we return to Edinburgh at around 18:45

We loved Niall and our tour to Rosslyn Chapel, the Scottish Border, Hadrian's wall... He showed up promptly at our hotel in his kilt. He explained that Kilt's are used for dress occasions, however, he uses his for conducting tours. It was a plus in our opinion and made for great photo ops. Niall was very knowledgeable about each site we toured and spots along the way. He is very personable, we feel that we visited Scotland with a friend. Definitely recommend Niall. Wish we had more time w/ him.
