Culture and Shopping
If you have a day in town I suggest this 7-hours tour.
We start visiting the Old Town Recife, where the city begun, and visit the Marco Zero square, the Good Jesus Street, the Giant Puppets Embassy (a local Carnaval's tradition) among many other options, depending on your interests.
The tour continues with a quick stop in Boa Viagem Beach, for a fresh coconut water by the sea and then in Recife Downtown, around the many bridges and squares. Then we stop at Casa da Cultura (an old prison turned into a mall in 1976) for shopping.
After lunch (many restaurants to choose) we'll visit Olinda's historical center (World Heritage by UNESCO in 1982). Founded by the Portuguese in the 16th century, Olinda's history is linked to the sugar-cane industry. Rebuilt after the Dutch invasion (1636 to 1654), its urban design is from the 18th century. The harmony between the buildings, gardens, churches and convents contribute to it's unique charm. We'll take a walk to discover the secrets and beauties of Olinda.
In Recife: Recife Antigo (Old Recife), Landmark Zero Square, Good Jesus Street, Republica Square, Boa Viagem Beach and Casa da Cultura. Stop for lunch around noon.
In Olinda: Carmo, Franciscan Convent, Sé Cathedral, panoramic elevator, art shops of Alto da Sé and Saint Benedict's Monastery.
NOTE: on Mondays some museums and cultural centers may not be open for visitation. During holidays some places may also be closed.

Sergio is an excellent guide for spending a day seeing the sights of Recife and the surrounding neighborhoods. Be sure to stop and try the "tapioca" local specialty (we are not talking pudding here!). He was punctual, a safe driver, knew the best places to visit and how to avoid the cruise ship tour buses. Book him on your next trip to Recife!
