A Full Day Trip to Historic Nuremberg with a Private Guide
We go to a city overflowing with history. Nuremberg played an important role in the Holy Roman Empire during the middle ages (ranking as the "most distinguished, best located city of the realm") and then again as a key point for the Nazi regime in the 20th century.
The heart of the city, completely destroyed during WWII, was reconstructed in detail so you really get a good sense of the medieval Nuremberg. The city walls still stand; the imperial castle perches majestically over the city; the extensive cellar network is open to the public; and the Gothic churches are magnificent.
The significant 3rd Reich locations we visit include the party rally grounds, where a week long Nazi fest was held every September, and the site of the post war trials. Both sites are now places of learning and have memorial museums.
Base price may be more for larger groups (larger vehicle).
It is a bout a 2-hour drive to Nuremberg from Munich. On the standard tour we first visit the party rally grounds and the documentation center. How long we stay here and how deep we go into the history of the area depends on your interest level.
From the rally grounds we can go straight to the old town or first head to the Nuremberg Trials Memorial site.
We spend most of the afternoon in the historic city center, a marvel of post-WWII reconstruction. Once again, the exact itinerary depends on your interests, but I always give you an orientation tour of the old town, which lasts about one hour.
Please write me with your interests and I will let you know what I recommend for afternoon activities, Possibilities include a visit to imperial castle, exploring the sandstone cellars, hitting the best photo spots or a bit of exploring or shopping on your own.
We can have a sit-down lunch or just a snack, which is easy to do because of the abundance of places to get the famous Nürnberger sausages in a bun.

This was a real adventure into Germany during the reign of Hitler. We saw two of the rally grounds, while they have been abandoned and are ruins, it is easy to picture the thousands gathered for the rally. We went to the museum of the third reich in Nuremberg. While our 7 year old grandson was a little bored (not his thing), our 11 year old granddaughter was fascinated. This is definitely a trip for World War II enthusiast.
