Visit the feudal lord's residence and samurai houses with a Private Guide
Japan's feudal lords had their residences outside their castles. In Kagoshima, they still keep one where a few generations of the Shimadzu clan actually lived. It has a magnificent landscape garden against the backdrop of Sakurajima volcano. Then one hour drive away it, there is an area where you can see a group of samurai houses beautifully and meticulously maintained by the descendants of them now. Both are really worthwhile visiting.
