A blended tour, including the summer playground of the rich & famous and the third largest wine making region in North America.
Long Island is 118 miles long. Seventy-nine miles to the east it forks. The south fork, known as "The Hamptons, " is named for the towns there-Southampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton, etc. The North Fork is an agricultural area and home to 29 wineries.
Long Island's moderate ocean climate and glacial soil allows grapes to ripen well, including a wide vareity of reds and whites.
We spend the morning in The Hamptons, visiting the picturesque Village of Southampton with its quaint shops, cafes, lovely beaches and 5-mile stretch of ocean front mansions referred to as "Billionaires Lane. " Then on to 18th Century whaling village Sag Harbor to explore and have a harbor-side lunch.
After lunch, we take a ferry to idyllic Shelter Island. We cross the island and take a second ferry to the North Fork, with its small towns, farm stands, vineyards and 29 wineries. My husband, son and I cannot rate this tour highly enough. Ronald was an absolutely excellent driver and guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and, on discovering our enthusiasm for the east coast music scene, shared many anecdotes which we very much enjoyed. He happily tweaked the tour to accommodate an independently pre-booked lunch reservation and, all in all, did everything he could to ensure that we had an absolutely first rate experience. Thank you so much! Colin, Dorothy & Jamie Sim, UK.
