views of Canterbury Plains and Lyttelton Harbour from Port Hills with a private guide
Custom tour, which starts in Akaroa, visits Little River, with its gallery, over Gebbies Pass and up to the Lyttelton Harbour crater rim , for sightseeing, into the city for views of the EQ legacy. We then head to Riccarton Bush to learn about the history and native vegetation of the area, before returning to Akaroa
After meeting you at the Akaroa wharf, we travel around the inner harbour bays, dotted with baches (that's what we call holiday homes), As we climb to the crest of the harbor basin (also known as the summit road or crater rim) we get panoramic view back to the ship to the south , and the outer bays to the north.
Depending on weather , we usually stop at Birdlings flat, known for its colored stones, where we stop and walk an a deserted beach, and learn about its formation and geology.
We then cross Gebbies Pass into the Lyttelton Harbour basin ( another extinct volcanic crater), before ascending the road along the summit road, to Dyers Pass, a popular stop with local cyclists and walkers, at a restored stone building, now a café. We can stop here for coffee, or head down the hill to the city of Christchurch. There is a degree of flexibility at this point, the options include , a walk along the esplanade at Sumner Beach, around the gardens of Mona Vale, and /or Riccarton Bush, before returning to the ship

We had a wonderful time with Brian as our guide. He took us to the off beaten paths and let us experience the real New Zealand. He took us to eat and experience local food and beer, things we couldn't have done if we joined the big bus tours. We had an easy and leisurely time in Christchurch, we had lots of opportunities to take pictures in the gardens and soak in the beautiful views in Akaroa and Lyttelton. Thank you Brian for the beautiful memories!
