Let your guide take you on a journey through time to the Age of Exploration
On this 3 hour walking tour you will visit Belém, one of Lisbon's most popular locations. Belém is home to two UNESCO world heritage sites, namely, the Tower of Belém and the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. The area also features many gardens, fountains, the pleasant riverside breeze and a proud collection of museums and cultural centers.
You will learn about the legacy of Prince Henry the Navigator and receive detailed information on Portugal's role as a seafaring nation on the forefront of naval exploration in the 15th and 16th century. Vasco da Gama, Pedro Alvares Cabral and Bartolomeu Dias are some of the many great explorers that will be addressed on this tour.
You will finish your tour with a tasting of the world famous "Pasteis de Belém", manufactured in the same location since 1837. A coffee and bathroom break is also included halfway through the tour.
We will meet at the Jardim Afonso de Albuquerque (next to the Presidential Palace and the National Coaches Museum)
The tour will then proceed to the following areas and sites of Lisbon:
- Pasteis de Belém
- Church of Jerónimos
- Nautical Museum
- Belém Cultural Center
- Tower of Belém
We will end the tour at the Monument to the Discoveries, built to honor the achievements of Prince Henry the Navigator and explorers such as Vasco da Gama.

My wife was ill so it was just Rui and me. It was a long walking tour but covered a lot of ground. The Maritime Museum was fascinating. Rui was a great guide and very knowledgable.
