Icod and Garachico
This tour invites us to visit two of Tenerife's landmarks. The first is Icod de los Vinos. The second is the old port of Garachico. Icod is home to the amazing thousand year old Dragon Tree, alongside San Marcos, one of Tenerife's most beautiful churches, rich in Gothic and Flemish art.
Garachico is everyone's favourite, a delightful old town where time appears to have stopped many years ago. This means it retains a blend of simple Canary Island charm and old-time nobility. Narrow cobbled streets lead in and out to inviting cafes and restaurants at the very edge of the island's fiercest seas.
Garachico was the home of some of the richest 16th century merchants like the Genoese Ponte dynasty which made fortunes exporting Malmsey wine to England. Indeed, until most of the town was destroyed by a great volcanic eruption in 1706, this was Tenerife's port. If we have time, we might like a dip in one of the rock pools and if requested we will enjoy a tapas lunch at a traditional Canary Island inn.
I will collect you from your hotel or meeting point in the port if you are on a cruise at 9am or earlier if you prefer. We will drive as far as the northwest coast of Tenerife, stopping briefly to stretch our legs before entering Icod de los Vinos. We will then head for Garachico for a stroll through the old town and a tapas lunch if requested. I will return you to your ship or hotel at approximately 3pm.

Meeting Point Options: Cruise Ship Port, Airport, Hotel, Address or Intersection
End Point Options: Cruise Ship Port, Airport, Hotel, Address or Intersection
Duration: 6 hours
Transport will be in a private car, hired vehicle or taxi. These will be modern, clean and air-conditioned. There will be a certain amount of strolling through the old town centres.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
25 Euros - I have suggested 25€ per person if you wish to stop for lunch, although you probably won't need as much. But there are some interesting souvenir, craft and wine shops you might like to peep at.
I am not a mountaineer so would not be able to take clients mountain climbing, for example up the slopes of Mount Teide, but I can, of course, take you on the cable car and walking along the many mountain and coastal tracks in Tenerife.

We had a wonderful tour with John, who is very knowledge about all elements of Tenerife (history, architecture, geology environment, etc.). He is very engaging and a comfortable person to be with for six hours of touring. And a very good driver! A highlight was a wonderful restaurant ("Los Pinos" in Garachico) that he selected for lunch - we had a fabulous goat stew, octopus with green mojo, and wrinkled potatoes. A truly memorable day!
