Taste Arancine, pizza and cannoli with an italian private guide!
Main theme of the tour is the Italian/Sicilian gastronomic culture which developed in the late 19th century and is still alive in the Village.
During our walk we will visit the main artistic sites and places of historical interest, as the South Village was an important cultural crossover and the center of the bohemian culture of the 20th century and one of New York's most picturesque neighborhoods.
I will lead you on a two-plus-hour gastronomical tour of the best Italian foods you can find in the Village, and along the way we will also unlock the secret history of this charming district.
Of course we will talk about the key ingredients of Italian food: wine, olive oil, bread and pasta and about its world famous "street food" like pizza and arancine, all seasoned with historical and personal annotations and many tastings along the way!
And at the end of the tour, as a special token, I will give you some very personal Sicilian recipes!
I was born and raised in Italy, so I have a lot to tell!
We will be strolling along the South Village, directly below Washington Square Park, known for its immigrant heritage and Bohemian history.
By the late 19th century the area was dominated by immigrants, largely from Italy. Many of those historic food shops are still open today.
We will walk down MacDougal and Bleecker Street, make a stop at Cafe Wha? and Cafe' Reggio where the first cappuccino was served in NYC, visit Our Lady of Pompeii, the parish founded in 1892.
We will stroll and visit old shops along Sullivan Street, Minetta Lane and Carmine Street. The tour will end at Father Demo Square.
All this with a very special guide, born and raised in Sicily, who will also his personal notes, tales and memories of his childhood in Sicily.

Francesco had such a bright and amicable energy, it was incredibly easy to feel comfortable and conversational around him. Beyond his character, he is wonderfully knowledgeable. He weaves his stories as he navigates through the streets in a manner that makes it easy to be a rapt audience. In addition, his connection with the local Italian community made for a great pit stop for un cafe! Very lucky to have met him!
