A comfortable half-day tour outside Budapest

Are you interested in royals? Do you enjoy historical palaces? Are you enchanted by the lifestyle of the old European aristocracy?

If yes, then join me and let's visit the former summer royal palace of the Hungarian kings and queens near the small town of Gödöllő. Just an hour's drive from central Budapest, and you can instantly dig yourself into the splendor of the 1700s and the 1800s. Let me tell stories to recall the life of the historical Hungarian nobility and the legendary royal couple of King Francis Joseph I and his wife Queen Elizabeth (better known for her nickname as "Sisi"), who turned a smaller lodge into a true imperial summer residence. Learn more about Hungary's pro-German governor Miklós Horthy who used the palace as a summer retreat between the two world wars and find out what the Soviet Red Army did here after 1945.

This tour is going to be a real time travel!

Itinerary

Situated about 17. 5 miles east of Budapest, it takes approximately 45-50 minutes to drive to the Summer Royal Palace.

The palace itself has recently been restored to welcome visitors again in its full splendor. The interior includes more than 30 exhibition rooms, bringing back the atmosphere of Royal Hungary in the 18th and 19th centuries with historical accuracy.

The 140-minute visit includes the Great Reception Hall, King Francis Joseph Wing & Exhibition, Queen Elisabeth Wing & Exhibition, Count Grassalkovich Wing & Exhibition and a walk around the garden.

At the end of the tour, we will return to Budapest in 45-50 minutes.

A Recent Review of this tour

Nikolett's Summer Royal Palace Tour was simply outstanding in every way!!! Not only did she show us a beautifully restored summer palace, but she imparted such incredible knowledge of the history of the palace from its beginnings in 1774 through to its modern day renovation, along with the information about the personal lives of the palace's inhabitants. Not only was it a tour of a royal palace, it was an excellent lesson in Hungarian history. Many, many thanks, Nikolett, for a fantastic tour!!!
