Tales of history and imagination private day tour
Enjoy a fascinating day tour to Mtskheta, one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world. It's the birthplace of and one of the most vibrant centres of Christianity in Georgia. In 2014, it was given the title of Holy City by the Georgian Orthodox Church. During the tour we'll see the 6th-century Jvari Monastery, which stands on the mountain in front of Mtsketa. We'll also visit the 11th-century Svetitskovhoveli complex. The first church was built here in the 6th century. The ruins of the old church are visible in the interior of the cathedral, under glass flooring.
Our final stop will be the ancient rock-hewn town of Uplistsikhe, built from the 5th-9th century BC. There's also a museum where you can see ancient artefacts from all over the world.
If you could go in a time machine, what era in history would you like to visit? Maybe Pagan times? Maybe new era of Christianity? Maybe in 6th or in 11th century? I will try to show you different periods of Georgias culture and history. We will visit two Unesco world heritage Sites in Georgia Jvari monastery and Svetitskoveli cathedral. also We will visit ancient cave city - Uflistikhe and see one of the oldest wine cellar and grapes pressing tubes.

Mariami is a superb guide! She went out of her way to create a tour for me at very short notice, based on the time that I had available and my particular interests. She's very well-informed, not just about Georgia's history, culture, architecture and art, but also about current affairs in Georgia and Europe. She is genuinely interested in other cultures, encourages questions and participates in lively discussions. She is engaging and warm and tells fascinating stories. You couldn't find a better guide.
