Exploring the chateaux of the Loire in a classic car
A day in the historic and beautiful Loire Valley, visiting two chateaux and dining with locals. Cheverny and Chenonceau are two of the most glamorous Loire Valley chateaux.
Along the way we may call into a cheese producer, or stop to view other chateaux. Your guide is also a nature and wildlife expert, so we may also stop to look at any wildlife we see.
The tour may also be available for groups of up to 7 people using two classic 1950s Citroën Traction Avant cars - please contact us for details.
We meet you at 9:00 (or when your train arrives at Saint Pierre des Corps). From there we drive to the chateau of Cheverny, famous for having one of the few original intact interiors and their pack of hounds.
After lunch in a "relais" style restaurant much favoured by local workers (and in which we may be the only English speakers) we drive through rolling countryside to the château of Fougeres sur Bievre (exterior visit only), then to Chenonceau, once home to Catherine de Medici and Diane de Poitiers. After visiting the chateau we walk through the gardens and visit the "model farm".
The day finishes with a wine tasting (with local speciality foods) at a 1000 year old wine cave.

Our Chateau tour, french-workers lunch, wine tasting and Classic car ride could never top the time we spent with Susan and Simon learning about the culture and history of the French. The discussions on local customs while traveling between the historical sites was truly enjoyable. Both Susan and Simon seem to have totally immersed themselves in the history of the region and were exceptional in relaying this knowledge and information to us. We would highly recommend this tour and these guides.
