The beauty of the North
We start our tour to St. Hilarion castle with its spectacular views and sceneries perched dramatically on a mountain. First fortified by the Byzantines, these were greatly strengthened by the Lusignan kings during the Middle Ages.
We continue our tour to the center of Kyrenia town and its spectacular castle built during the Byzantine period in the 9th century AD. The shipwreck museum will be visited dating back to ancient times which includes the ships final cargo, the items used by the sailors.
Much of the day will be devoted to exploring the picturesque town of Kyrenia with its horseshoe-shaped Harbor, and its maze of narrow streets with finely preserved stone houses. We continue our tour to Bellapais Abbey, a masterpiece of the Gothic art made famous in the novel Bitter Lemons by Lawrence Durrell.
We take a break and have lunch at a local restaurant facing the historic Abbey ( own expense).
Then back to the starting point.

Savvas is a fabulous and very knowledgeable guide. He accommodated my desire to visit as many medieval castles and churches and ancient archeological sites as possible by scheduling four 10 hour well-organized days, stopping only for coffee. We used Larnaka as our base. He is a very safe driver. He even brought along classical music CDs, snacks and pomegranate juice. He is very personable. I strongly recommend him. (I visited south and north Nicosia and its museums by myself.)
