Kakheti, The Wine Region - a Full Day Tour
Sighnaghi is a small town in the east of Georgia situated on the mountainside in the historical region of Kakheti. It was founded in the 17th century during the reign of King Heraclius II of Georgia, and as locals say, it is the only city in Georgia that has fully preserved the fortress walls that are crowned with watchtowers, where one can climb to get the magnificent view of the Alazani valley.
After renovation in 2007, Sighnaghi has turned into a European town with narrow cobbled streets, that are winding and steep, and districts full of one or two story houses with bright red tiled roof in the style of South Italian classicism.
From Sighnaghi it is possible to see Alazani Valley and Caucasus Mountains.
The Monastery of St. Nino at Bodbe (commonly called Bodbe Monastery) is a Georgian Orthodox monastic complex and the seat of the Bishops of Bodbe located 2 km from the town of Sighnaghi.
Pick up. Drive to the direction of Bodbe. Visiting Bodbe Monastery. St. Nino Nunnery. Bodbe monastery occupies a distinguished place in the spiritual life. The reason, of course, is that there is grave The Illuminator, the right to the Holy Apostles Nino.
Visiting Sighnaghi (The City of Love) - From there you can see the picturesque views of Alazany Valley and Caucasian Mountains.
later visiting Sighnaghi Museum, It is the high standard museum in Georgia. Signagi Museum exhibits Archeology, Ethnography and Medieval expositions, Signagi Museum exhibits 16 paintings by Niko Pirosmanashvili. Pirosmani was born in Kakheti's village of Mirzaani, therefore early period of his artistic career is affiliated with Kakheti.
There are two Georgian orthodox churches in the town itself - one dedicated to St. George and the other to St. Stephen.
There is also a possibility to taste famous Kakhetian wines in famous wine cellar.
About lunch, we will agree during the tour.

There is a Dress code in Georgian Orthodox churches and Monasteries. Ladies need a dress and scarfs to cover the body, and men should wear long trousers
you should not enter there during prayer or service. I can provide dress and scarfs for the ladies
