Discover Herculaneum like a local person would
Step back 2000 years and get immerged in a real roman town buried under 75 feet of hot mud during the roman empire. Visit ancient houses, stores, taverns, mosaics, frescoes and…skeletons! Herculaneum is smaller than Pompeii but better preserved and easier to visit. This tour is designed for those that really want to experience local culture moving around like a local person would, that is by public trasportation: it is fast, it is cheap, it can be fun!
Right in front of the cruise terminal we will catch the electric train for a 10 minutes ride which will show you some of the town of Naples and its city walls. Once at the train station we will catch the Circumvesuviana, a train to Hercolaneum is available every 15 minutes and it takes 15 minutes.
The train station of modern Ercolano is approx 10 minutes away from the excavations.
Our first approach is spectacular: all the ancient town laying at the bottom of an archaeological hole about 75 feet deep.
The walking tour will be tuned on your desires and on the group phisical attitude.
However Herculaneum is not as big as Pompeii is, so in two hours you can definitely see most of the Highlights. We won't miss the Thermal Baths, The Augustali Council and its frescoes, The Big Palestra, The House of neptune and Anphitritis with its spectacular mosaics.
