A 1000 years' story in 6 hours
During this 6-hour tour in a private car you can easily dig yourself into the details of the vast Jewish heritage of Budapest.
The story will be told in a chronological order, while we follow the footsteps of the Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jews. From the Middle Ages to full emancipation in 1868, we will visit 800-year-old tombstones, six historical synagogues, and an authentic apartment-museum to recall Jewish lifestyle in Budapest in the late 19th century's "Golden Age". We will discuss the ghettoization and deportations, visit the related holocaust monuments and the Jewish mass graves created in 1945. In the Glass House we will remember people who saved Jews from extermination in death camps. We will also do a short walk to enjoy the vibrant contemporary atmosphere of the most Jewish corner of Budapest, mingle with locals, and see the stunning Jewish culture-related street art. In one of the local Jewish coffee houses, we will sit down for a drink and a slice of delicious home-made (kosher) cake: the flódni.

This is a tour in a private car/minivan. Expect some steps and cobble-stoned walking surface at some locations. Comfortable shoes are recommended. Moreover, you have to be respectful in prayer houses, so both men and women have to cover shoulders and legs down to the knees. Men have to cover heads in synagogues.
