Marvel at the beauty & uniqueness of the tropical rainforst side of the Big Island
You will experience the beauty & magic of this side/part of the Big Island, why it unique in the Hawaiian chain, and why I have chosen to live here. You will learn a lot about Hawaiian history, culture, the language, trees, fruits, flowers, birds, animals, and more. There will be many great photo ops. It will be a very educational, informative, interesting, fun, and memorable tour that you will remember & cherish the rest of your life.
In Hilo the highlights and choices are Banyan Drive, the Kamehameha Statue, & Rainbow Falls, which is nice but pales in comparison to Akaka falls which is up the Hamakua coast. From Hilo we either head north over the "singing bridge" up the spectacular Hamakua Coast, take the incredibly beautiful 4 mile Onomea scenic route along the tropical rainforest coast that has several one lane bridges, waterfalls, and the best botanical garden in Hawaii ($15 entrance fee) that goes down to beautiful Onemea bay which takes from 1 hour to 1-1/2 hours or take a free, short 600 ft. old Donkey Trail. Next is the fruit stand in Honomu on the way to Akaka Falls, one of the tallest, most beautiful waterfalls in Hawaii. Alternativealy after Hilo we head up to Volcano National Park to take in all the sites there. Given time, we will stop at the Orchid farm on the way back to Hilo as well at the Maunaloa Macadamia nut farm. The 3rd, and really my favorite option after Hilo is the breathtakingly beautiful are of Puna.

Laurence is a most exceptional guide and gave a remarkable tour of Hilo and surrounding areas. No way we could have ever figured this out ourselves; his love of Hawaii was quite obvious and I know that we saw areas that other guides would have known about. I always want to try local food - Laurence took us to Kaleo's Bar and Grill - they had the best coconut grilled shrimp and calamari I have ever had. But even more importantly, his knowledge contributed to such a wonderful trip! Thanks Laurence!
