A great introduction to the city's charms
After pick up from the port we will do a short tour with a driver along the sea front to see the improvements and HQ of the America's Cup. Drop off in the old city gate and walk to the Central Market - the largest covered market in Europe. It is open from 8am-2pm so we must begin here. After taking in the beauty and functionality of this modernist masterpiece the tour rest of the tour is devoted to exploring Valencia's history. A visit to the Holy Grail before lunch is necessary (closing time 2pm) and a walk to our lunch spot for paella. After lunch we visit several monuments including the stunning silk market building, Roman ruins and Valencia's "Sistene Chapel". Tapas for afternoon tea before either heading back to port or drop off at the City of Arts and Sciences.
After our meeting at the port, we will do a drive by the America's cup port area and front line of the beach. We head into town and continue the tour on foot, entering the city from the old Quart city gate.
The must-see monuments are the following:
Silk Market - Lonja
Valencia's Sistine Chapel - San Nicolas
Historic street walk.
Cathedral and stunning Plaza of the Virgin.
The Miguelete, Plaza Redonda, Europe's narrowest building.
Lunch at El Forcat (paella to be decided at later date) and a busy afternoon of site-seeing. Tapas stop / afternoon tea stop when and if necessary.
Drop off can be back in the port or in town.
