enjoying the masterpieces of the bad boy of the European Baroque

A private tour of three hours with a licensed guide, myself, starting from your hotel (within the Aurelian Walls) and getting to know some of the most famous roman masterpieces by Caravaggio. A stroll though the outstanding churches that host his artworks.
Caravaggio lived in Rome for a while and here left some of his greatest masterpieces. He was definitely a revolutionary, a pioneer, an inventor of new painting styles and a trouble maker. He was shocking for the people of his times, who actually loved him.
Walking on his footsteps will allow us to get know and enjoy the Rome of the 1600's, which was definitely an elegant papal city, but was also the city who gave Caravaggio his favorite models : prostitutes, pilgrims, poor people, workers.
I will share with you how and why Caravaggio was able to become the most Christian of the painters despite himself.

A Recent Review of this tour

This was our second day with Monica. She took us to see the most recently discovered Caravaggio painting (60 years ago). We would not have known about it but for Monica. At Monica's request, the museum, located in Palestrina, opened - just for us - and closed when we left. What a treat to learn about how this painting was discovered, authenticated, and restored. Our two-days with Monica led to seeing 14 new (for us) Caravaggio works and gaining an understanding of the man and how he worked. Wonderful!
