Overview of the Aztecs and other civilizations in the Anthropology Museum and the Templo Mayor

Considered one of the most important and largest museums of its kind - in Mexico and in the world, The National Museum of Anthropology has an extensive collection of prehispanic art and contemporary cultures. This tour does not focus on individual showpieces of the archaeological and folklore heritage of the Mexican peoples, but instead on the their cultural evolution during the last 2000 years. As such, you will be 100% prepared to understand more about the archeological sites and indigenous villages you will visit during your current and future stays in Mexico. You will have to see it with your own eyes - this museum is an absolute must during your stay in Mexico City!

To update our visit with new findings about the Aztecs, we visit the foundations of the Templo Mayor pyramid, the symbolic center of the Aztec universe, where excavations over the last 35 years have unveiled a wealth of offerings, art and information.

Itinerary

- Anthropology Museum: brief description of the patio and the architecture of the museum, highlights of the first cultures of Central Mexico: Cuicuilco, Teotihuacán and Toltecs; way of life and worldviews of Aztec (mexica) culture, some aesthetic highlights of other cultures (Maya, Zapotec and Occidental)
- Aztec Templo Mayor: walk through the ruins of the pyramids foundation, visit of the highlight of the museum (two giant carved stones with Aztec gods, two ceramic sculptures of a warrior and a god, the skull wall. . . )

Light lunch at a restaurant will be suggested (can be downtown or at the museum, according to itinerary).

If you want to limit the amount of archeological information, the Aztec Templo Mayor can be replaced by the National History Museum at the Chapultepec Castle.

In case you want transportation included in your tour booking, I can customize a tour for you.
