Dion museum, archaeological park & Old Panteleimonas village
70 minutes from Thessaloniki is Dion. Lying in the shadow of Mt. Olympus, Dion was the "sacred place" of the ancient Macedonians. From very ancient times, a large altar had been set up for the worship of Zeus and his daughters, the Muses, in a unique environment: rich vegetation, towering trees, countless springs and a navigable river. In the 5th century B. C, when the Macedonian state acquired great power and emerged onto the stage of history, brilliant athletic and theatrical contests, the "Olympian Games of Dion" were organized there. In Dion you can admire the findings of the museum and walk in the archaeological park. During summer we can go in Litoxoro or Platamonas for a swim in the sea. 40 minutes from Dion is an old traditional village called "Palaios Panteleimonas" with an exceptional view where you can admire the local architecture and enjoy a really delicious meal!

Eleni is a wonderful guide. She is very knowledgeable and speaks excellent English. Her educational background includes studies in Greek cultural history and she knew the answer for all of our questions. She is extremely pleasant and was very accommodating. Out trip involved driving a few hundred miles. She was very punctual and a safe driver. I would definitely recommend her as a guide for any friend or family visiting Thessaloniki.
