8 to 20 km (5 to 12 mile) walking/hiking tour through pretty Cotswold countryside and villages

This 8 to 20 km country walk passes through some of the loveliest villages in the east of the Cotswolds. The manor houses and churches in the villages are associated with historic figures such as Jane Austen, Robert Catesby the leader of the Gunpowder Plot, Warren Hastings the first Governor of India and the Sir Anthony Bamford the JCB entrepreneur.

The walk starts in Adlestrop near to the quiet station where, in June 1914, the Paddington to Worcester express train stopped unexpectedly and where a passenger, the poet Edward Thomas heard a blackbird sing. A few months later, during the early months WWI, he wrote the famous poem 'Aldestrop' evoking memories of all English villages.

This is a walking tour so waterproofs and shoes or boots with a good grip are essential. It is easy to moderate walking through rolling countryside and can be 8 to 20 km long, depending on your preference.

Itinerary

Meet at Adlestrop village at the start of the walk, at your accommodation or a local railway station (Kingham or Moreton-in-Marsh).

Follow a circular walk through the parishes and villages of Adlestrop, Oddington and Daylesford. The longer walk also visits Chastleton.

Pub stop for lunch or sandwiches.

Return to the meeting place.

A Recent Review of this tour

Hi Anne Coupled with your guidance, my whole family enjoyed the walking tour in the Cotswold ; even my husband who got very tired towards the end. No regrets. You have been very accommodative and have made the walk more interesting. I shall definitely be going for more such walking holidays in the UK in my future trips here.
