Once called the Gibraltar of the north
Suomenlinna sea fortress is located upon granite islands outside Helsinki. It takes about 15 - 20 minutes to reach the fortress by ferry from the Market Square. The islands have bastions, canons, museums but also nice cafes and a small beach. Suomenlinna sea fortress has over 900, 000 visitors per year. It became a UNESCO World Heritage sight in 1991.
We will take the ferry from the Market Square. Please remember to dress suitable to the weather. The next hours will be spent walking around Suomenlinna sea fortress. I recommend a visit to the Toy museum if you are interested in old toy. Please notice that the museum is operated by a private person and therefore open only during the summer and bigger holidays.
You will have time to do some shopping as well as having refreshments.
