Suchitoto is known as the Capital of Culture in El Salvador. It has a rich colonial and post colonial past which is shown vividly in the architecture evident throughout the city.
The name Suchitoto means "Bird-Flower", and both of these elements are shown off to great effect. With cobblestone streets, colonial churches, art galleries, restaurants and friendly people, the beautiful town of Suchitoto is a place where art, nature and culture converge.
Our walking tour will take you to the most important places in the town. You will visit churches, Centro Arte para la Paz where they are teaching youngsters a culture of peace through arts , art galleries that showcase local artists, restaurants, a local cooperative of women who continue the Mayan art of dying fabrics with indigo, the local market, and more.
The drive to Suchitoto will include a stop at Cihuatan, one of the largest archaeological sites in El Salvador. You will learn of the cultural legacy of the Nahuatl-Pipil our Salvadorean ancestors
We will be heading north from San Salvador the capital on one of the country's most modern roads, seeing the Salvadoran landscape with volcanoes, mountains, corn fields, sugar cane fields.
We are going to make our first stop at Cihuatan Archeological site then we will drive to Suchitoto
In Suchitoto we will take our walking tour in town visiting the different art galleries, local church, Puerto San Juan and Centro de Arte para La Paz, for lunch there are different options in town
