a deep dive in the neapolitan culture
A stroll in the historic center of Naples, what we call "an open air museum".
We have, of course, the opportunity to see the most beautiful streets, palace and churches of Naples but we focus more on the popular culture of Naples.
The way of living in community, outdoor, the mix of religion and superstition that still affect the modern life, the art of making hand made Nativity scene, and the great variety of street food.
we stop and taste the rich and gorgeous food served in the street of the center…. the "sfogliatella", the "pizza", the "frittatina", the "calzoni", the "pizza fritta", the "taralli con il pepe", the "crocchè di patate", the "arancini"…that's the way of eating in Naples!
we start from one of the most famous square in Naples, "piazza del Gesù Nuovo" and we walk along two parallel roads, the oldest of Naples, dating back to the Roman times, the so-called "Decumanum".
You can visit some churches , the "Chiesa del Gesù Nuovo", the "Chiesa di Santa Chiara" and I will talk about the popular culture related with religion.
We'll walk on the street of "San Gregorio Armeno" where are all the "Nativity scene shops", all the artists making hand made nativity scene as in the oldest unique neapolitan art.
We'll arrive then to a place that was the old Roman Forum, where we find now the church of San Lorenzo with the ruins of the Roman market and the entrance of the underground Naples.
We walk along the other roman road (decumanum) arriving to the square of Bellini where we can see the greek city walls.
All along our walk we are going to taste local street food, I'm going to talk to you about the popular neapolitan culture.
You can really live a special and authentic experience!

Rosa was great. Smart, well-prepared, funny and knowledgeable. She had done her homework on some areas and sights we wanted especially to see and was ready with all the information we needed to understand the history and importance of what she showed us. We had such a good time that we were a bit late for the next part of our trip. Two days later we saw her leading a tour group on the Amalfi Coast and it was like reuniting with an old friend.
