Life and times of William Shakespeare & the Earls of Warwick
Famous around the world as the birthplace of the playwright William Shakespeare, the delightful and vibrant riverside town of Stratford upon Avon is the setting for our morning walk exploring the streets and houses that would have been familiar to William, his family, friends and associates. A short drive out of town brings us to Anne Hathaway's cottage where he courted his future wife and to Mary Arden's Farm where his mother grew up. The afternoon is spent exploring the most complete medieval castle in England - the splendid - Warwick Castle
From the birthplace we take take a gentle stroll beside the river and through the streets that were familiar to William Shakespeare. Along the way we see where he went to school, the site of the house that he retired to on his return from London - and his final resting place in the Parish Church. Moving on to the outlying villages we can visit one of the typical Tudor style properties associated with William and his family.
Lunch can be on 'on the hoof' or at my favourite traditional Tudor tearooms, where they prepare delicious, home cooked local produce and of course, the classic English afternoon tea - served in fine bone china - and warm scones with clotted cream and jam on tiered plates.
From here it is a very short walk to Warwick Castle where we spend the rest of the day exploring the heights and depths of this fantastic historic site , which has stood guard over this stretch of the River Avon for almost a thousand years.

We had an extremely enjoyable time in Stratford-on-Avon and surrounding areas. We covered a lot in the full day with Diane. Our 14 year old granddaughter who was with us and is a fan of Shakespeare really enjoyed the visit with Diane as our guide. Diane was very informative and it was a pleasure to have her assist us in our visit.
