Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare and Oxford, the oldest university in the English speaking world

On this walking and driving tour we visit two of England's most famous and historic places: Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford

In Stratford we will wander through the town, see the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and learn about the family life of William Shakespeare, from his birth to his marriage, retirement and burial. We will see where he was born, where he went to school and even walk along a street where he went to the pub.

In Oxford we will also walk through the city and the heart of this ancient and still vibrant university, learning about it's long history which is an integral part of England's story and seeing some of the colleges where students live, work and play.

The driving between Stratford and Oxford (or vica/versa) passes through pretty Cotswold towns and villages, where small groups (of up to 4 people) can stop for lunch in a village pub.

The walking tour of Stratford takes around 1. 5 hours and the walking tour of Oxford takes about 2 hours, and the journey between the cities takes 1. 5 hours

Meeting Location + Tour Duration

Meeting location: At Oxford, Stratford or Banbury railway stations.
At a hotel in these towns, or within a 25 mile radius or in the north Cotswolds.

End location: I will leave you where we met unless we have agreed another end point.
If not the start point, please let me know where when making the booking.

Duration: 9 hours

The length of the tour may vary a little if traffic is bad or if the weather is inclement.

Transportation

I hire vehicles for driving between sites and normally use 'people carriers' (called a minivan in the USA I believe), like the Citroen Grand Picasso. The vehicles are fully insured, modern, comfortable, spacious and high so you can see more.

The tour includes walking tours of Stratford of around 1.5 miles taking about 1.5 hours, and of Oxford of around 2 miles taking 2 to 3 hours. Please wear comfortable shoes.

What’s Included

Anne, the tour guide/driver who will give you lots of interesting information about Oxford and Stratford on the walking tours, together with transportation between the towns in a clean, modern and comfortable vehicle.

Anne holds professional indemnity and public liability insurance and the vehicle is also fully insured.

What’s Extra

Entrances to attractions and refreshments.

Restrictions

I offer driving tours from Oxford, Banbury, Stratford and North Cotswolds. I can pick up from a hotel or station. I do not offer day tours from London but can pick-up and drop-off on longer tours.
For walking tours, I pick up within 15 miles of the start.

A Recent Review of this tour

Anne is a very pleasant and knowledgeable guide. This tour exceeded our expectations and covered a lot of historical and geographic ground over a full 9 hours, door to door. We would highly recommend.
