Ancient and Medieval England
Stonehenge is a world famous prehistoric monument designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The attractive city of Salisbury which received its charter in 1227 is just 8 miles from Stonehenge. It has been an administrative, commercial and religious centre since medieval times. The cathedral is a fine example of Early English architecture dating from the mid-13th century with a spire which is the highest in the UK. It contains the world's oldest working clock (1386) and it houses the best-preserved of the four surviving copies of the Magna Carta.
This tour may be amended as a SHORE EXCURSION from Southampton, Weymouth/Portland, or Bristol. Please message me before booking.
We travel from Bath/Bristol to walk around Prehistoric Stonehenge before going onward to Salisbury where the Mediaeval Cathedral boasts England's highest spire, and possibly the best preserved original copy of the Magna Carta.
The itinerary allows for a short lunch break. There are cafes at Stonehenge and at Salisbury Cathedral but if you fancy going to a traditional pub that can be arranged.
