Summer Imperial Residences
One of the "must-sees" for tourists coming to St. Petersburg is Catherine Palace in the suburban town of Pushkin, known also as Tsar's Village or Tsarskoye Selo as we call it in Russian. The palace itself is a masterpiece of baroque architecture, where you can feel the imperial scale and see more gold than you can imagine. Designed for Empress Elizabeth it was later the favorite residence of Catherine the Great.
Contact me for a customized tour if you would like to add Pavlovsk (which is in 10 minutes drive). It was presented by Catherine the Great to her son Paul and became a favorite summer residence of his family. Very elegant and stylish it was designed in classical style. Two different residences, located so close to each other give a great chance to see two different fashions.
As a customized tour - a visit to the Amber workshop can be added
If you're travelling from late October to mid April when Catherine garden has free admission contact me first to get a discount.
We'll meet at the lobby of your hotel and a comfortable car/mini van will take us to the town of Pushkin. It usually takes about one hour to get there but depends on the traffic. On the way I'll tell you about the things we pass by, the history of Tsar's Village estate and the Romanovs.
A tour inside the palace is about 1. 5 hours. You'll see the Amber room and other ornate baroque interiors. A special story is a story of the restoration after the World War II. The palace was raised from ashes and the restoration process keeps going.
After the palace - a stroll in the park if the weather is all right.
DAYS OFF! Pushkin is closed on Tuesday and from October to April - also last Monday of every month
Pavlovsk is closed on Friday and first Monday of every month. High tourist season - May to September - palace is opened every day

We toured with Irina for 2 days, one outside St. Petersburg to take in the fabulous Russian Imperial palaces and the second in the city to see many of the key sights and take a great boat tour on the canals. Irina is a pleasure. Tons of knowledge peppered with a friendly and outgoing personality. Not only did she organize great experiences for us but, through great conversations, Irina became our new friend in Russia. The driver she works with is wonderful as well.
