Emperor Diocletian Palace and the Old town Split tour
UNESCO city Split is the biggest city on the Croatian coast and one of the most historical cities on the Mediterranean.
We will explore together the compact, pedestrianized center of town, almost entirely preserved 4th century Diocletian's palace, its basements, as well as the St. Domnius cathedral. We will walk through the palace fortifications and gates, visit the Jewish ghetto and admire one of the main symbols of Split - its main promenade, the seafront - Riva.
You will hear the story of the life of Diocletian - of one of the most successful Roman emperors, but also the worst Christian persecutor ever. St. Domnius was one of the martyrs from that period, nowadays he is the patron of Split. . . You will learn how the palace of Diocletian was turned into medieval Christian town and. . . yes. . . why we have the oldest cathedral building in the world (!)
You also might be interested to hear why the city of Split is considered to be the sportiest city in the world. . .
