I have a good knowledge of major and minor tourist sights and of anything that is worth seeing or experiencing in Slovenia.
I hope you have high expectations of your tour guide! As a tour guide I am well presented and well spoken, a safe driver and I am conscientious, especially about punctuality. I have a good understanding of local, European and world history and current affairs.
I love exploring, so I know lots of small scenic roads, which I include in my tours as alternatives to major roads. Thus we pass through small villages and experience true Slovenia. I also know many excellent local restaurants and wine cellars.
I am a state licensed tour manager with plenty of experience and intimate knowledge of Slovenia and neighbouring countries (Croatia, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Slovak republic, Czech republic).
I am bilingual in Slovenian and English, I am fluent in Serbian, Croatian and Bosnian, I speak conversational German and Spanish, and basic French and Italian.
I studied abroad (Austria, USA, England, the Netherlands) and traveled extensively (Europe, USA, Mexico and Central America, south-east Asia, Africa and the Middle East) so I have a vast knowledge, deep respect and total awareness of foreign cultures.
I enjoy hiking and trekking, and apart from thorough knowledge of Slovenia's trails, I have done a lot of trekking around the world - including the Kilimanjaro, and I was the first Slovenian to successfully complete the Pacific Crest trail across the USA, from the Mexican up to the Canadian border.
I also have a lot of experience in bicycle touring, as I completed 3 large trips: across Europe - from Ljubljana to London across the Alps (2 months), around the Mediterranen sea (1 year, 3 continents, 15 countries) and across Africa (6 months, from Cape Town to Kilimanjaro).
I have written 2 travel books and lots of articles in Slovenia's newspapers and magazines.
I have a van to accommodate 8 passengers and a car accomodating up to 5 passengers. If you prefer public transport, we can take train or local bus, and I am happy to arrange cycling or hiking tours.
A Recent Review of this guide
Gregor is knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. He was also very flexible with the itinerary and suggested various options that allowed us to see more beautiful places that were not part of the standard tour. He gave suggestions on other attractions to try on our own time. We also got lots of ideas on what and where to eat, and where to buy treats. I very much enjoyed exploring Vintgar Gorge, Bled Castle, the shore of Lake Bled and Ljubljana. The capital is very beautiful and deserves a longer stay!!
