Macedonia - Bulgarian dramatic history
Going to Skopje - the capital of Republic of Macedonia, it is as if going back to those days at the beginning of 20th century when the so called "Macedonian" question was conceived. Yet, Skopje is the new modern face of a young independent country which was firstly acknowledged by Bulgaria.
We start from Sofia and in 2 hrs we'll be at the boarder with Republic of Macedonia. At arrival in Skopje we start walking right in the city centre, where you will go accross the "KAMEN" bridge, take a walk along the small shopping streets of the old market - the second biggest of this type after the "Grand Bazar" in Istanbul - "Kapalicarsi", then up to the Kale (fortress) and have some lunch (optional). On the way back we'll walk along the pedestrian area, see the museum house of Mother Theresa (free entrance) , and see the Old train staion, which has been converted into the Museum of Macedonia.

Philip was an excellent guide for our day trip from Sofia to Skopje. He is very friendly and knowledgeable and shared some fascinating details of both countries with us. The time in Skopje was well structured to give us a great taste of the city and he shared some traditional Bulgarian music with us on the journey home. We had a great day and I thoroughly recommend Philip if you're looking for a guide in Bulgaria!
